2010-11 Academic Year Evaluation of Professor Albert Whittenberg
Professor Albert Whittenberg taught as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History
during this academic year as he continues to progress toward his Ph.D. in Public History.
The focus of Professor Whittenberg’ teaching in the History Department shifted rather
dramatically during this academic year, as he moved from teaching on-line General Education
History courses to teaching graduate-level courses in archives administration as part of his
professional resideney, which is one of the requirements of his Ph.D. program. During the Fall
2010 semester, he taught the “Seminar in Archival Management” as MTSU’s contribution for its
participation in the Archives Educational Consortium. Although there were not a sufficient
number of MTSU students enrolled in the class to generate a teaching evaluation report, Dr. Bren
Martin received very high praise for the course from other consortium faculty. In the Spring
2011 semester, Professor Whittenberg taught his own section of “Essentials of Archival
Adminsitration” in an in-class setting at MTSU. His evaluations for that class ranked him at or
above average in all categories, which is a significant achievement for someone teaching a new
course for the first time. Professor Whittenberg scored a perfect 5.0 in the category of “Student
Interactions” for that class, which measures, for example, the encouragement of class discussion
and the instructor's ability to relate to the students as individuals.
The History Department was indeed fortunate to have such a skilled teacher with the specialized
skills in archival administration available to teach these classes for this academic year.
