CHALLENGES REGARDING E-COMMERCE IN PAKISTAN BRP-1

ABSTRACT

In the present era, organizations have grown globally and businesses have become more advanced and fast-
paced. The use of Internet has drastically increased. It has expanded from one or two cities to a nation-wide
network in Pakistan. But despite of this fast-paced growth, e-commerce still remains not popular among the
business firms of Pakistan. Our research study focuses on identifying the causes and challenges regarding e-
commerce in Pakistan.

Several studies of e-commerce in developing countries have emphasized the influence of obstacles related to
PCs-penetration, cultural and economical infrastructure, and regulatory environment as major determinants of e-
commerce success. IT has revolutionized the way organizations conduct business round the globe. Now
business is conducted on-line instead of conventional means.

In Pakistan, e-commerce is facing both technical and non-technical issues from management perspectives. A
huge body of research is going on to unfold the key issues of e-commerce. This research focuses on the
challenges regarding e-commerce in Pakistan e.g. cultural issues i.e. language, shopping habits, and use of credit
as well as low literacy rate, less accessibility of people to Internet technology, lack of e-transaction support in
Pakistan etc.

The primary data collected through structured questionnaires assessed by e-commerce professionals and
business executives was analyzed and tested. The secondary data was collected from various available previous
researches on e-commerce, articles and books.

Moreover, management implications along with possible solutions to the barriers of e-commerce in Pakistan are
presented. The finding of this research study suggests that continuous progress and improvement is needed in
the field of internet & e-commerce in Pakistan.
