Abstract

Attitudinal Manifestations of Teenagers Toward Their Schooling in Relation to

Parenting Styles

This study was embarked as a response to the problem of some parents

with regards to the attitude of their teenage children toward their schooling. This
phenomenon has been observed in the fourth year high school students of Holy
Cross Academy, the oldest, biggest, and prestigious high school in the town of
Tubigon, Bohol.

The respondents were fifty senior students from section St. John of Holy
Cross Academy, and their respective parents.

Questionaires were distributed and answered by the respondents. After

being gathered, the data was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted.

The parenting styles were determined and were identified to be democratic,

autocratic or permissive. Majority of the parents were democratic.

The attitude of their respective teenage children were also determined and
described to be very interested, interested, less interested and not interested in
schooling. Most of the students were found out to be either very interested or
interested, which boiled down to the conclusion that section St. John is not a
problematic class after all.

Outcome of this study would be very useful in developing a program to

enhance relationships between parents and children in order to improve attitude
toward schooling.
