This project: The ELTDP English Language Teaching Development Project History: 2003: Schools started Maths/ Science in English 2008: This was stopped New policy focusing on improving teaching in early primary 2011: The New curriculum

ELTDP Overview: Support the new curriculum by providing support systems, training and guidance on English language teaching in Primary schools Throughout Sabah: 60 mentors Each mentor has 5 schools Each group of mentors covers 15 schools in one area

3 phases Phase 1 Collecting data and information for needs analysis Phase 2 Mentoring and professional development according to needs analysis Phase 3 Assessment of success and sustainability

New Curriculum Teachers of English; Year 1-3 Working with teachers in their context Sharing knowledge, skills, information

Objectives: To help improve Classroom teaching and learning To help improve English-language proficiency and exposure To help teachers source (find), assess, develop and use materials To sustain ongoing development by involving all stakeholders

Objectives: To engage teachers and other stakeholders in meeting the objectives!

Role of the Mentor

To give 75 hours of professional input in the form of: Focus groups Reading and discussion groups Classroom research Peer observation To visit each school once a week, whenever possible.

Week1 Meeting and informationsharing Week 2 Classroom Observations Week 3 Feedback and mentoring Week 4 Data analysis and future planning (Mentors will be preparing a report for BC)
