I believe that Disney songs only sound right when they are played on the guitar by a cute curly haired boy in his bedroom. I believe that happiness is as simple as a pack of Doublestuf Oreos and a couple hours of online musicals. I believe that there is nothing wrong with being obsessed with something, especially if that thing is so freakin' awesome. I believe in a part of something bigger: than all of us. My name is Jocelyn Hannusch and, like hundreds of thousands of others, I am a Starkid. I discovered AVery Potter Musical in February 2010, and to be quite honest I have not been the same since. Never had I come across something on the internet that made me laugh and smile as much as that show. What really caught me was that it wasn't just laughout-loud funny; it was also clever and heartfelt in all the right places, and best of all it did not put Harry Pofter down, it just showed it in a different light. I love musical theatre and I love Harry Potter - so put 'em together and what have you got? My most favourite thing in the whole world - and I really mean that.
Being part of the Starkid community is something I will never truly be able to put into words, but "The Starkid Affirmation" was one attempt. lt did not take me long to write because it was honestly something I felt every day. I am still shocked that the document spread throughout the Starkid fandom, and because it did, I have made many friends with whom I get to laugh, share stories, and act crazy. When the Affirmation reappeared on the Starkid facebook page one day, Jennifer Simone had a brilliant idea. She said that I should copy all of the photos'comments, where people had written "my name is.......and lam a Starkid", and give it to you guys at Leaky Con, where I had been planning to give you guys a copy anyway. From that little suggestion, this project was born. I created a facebook group where it explained how people could make a picture or a write-up of what Starkid was to them, and they had to include somewhere "my name is .... and I am a Starkid". Not only did I get a collection of crazy, unique, and often touching entries, the group itself turned into a tight-knit family and we have had lots of fun making covers of songs, coming up with creative ideas and stories, and posting Harry Potter/Mean Cirls crossovers. lt has been an incredible experience, and it's all because of you. Being a part of that Iittle group, and the entire Starkid family in general, has just reiterated why I wanted to write the Affirmation in the first place. I truly do believe in a community of dorky, life-loving fans that are spread across the world, and yet share the love of a few viralYouTube videos. lt doesn't mafter where we are, where we've been, or even where we are going. Right now, in these moments, we are all here with one another, laughing and crying in celebration of all things Starkid Potter. Thank you, from the bottom of my tap-dancing heart, for everything you do. I wish each and every one of you the best of luck in your futures, and always keep in mind that your fans will always be there to help you maaaaaaaake it throooooooooooough.
