Listening transcript The UK Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards were first held 11 years ago. There are currently similar awards given in about 150 countries around the world and the winners go on to contest the World Entrepreneur of the Year awards held each year in Monte Carlo. These are really the business worlds equivalent of the Oscars. The idea is to celebrate people who have a drive and passion for business. They could come from any type of company or sector - from a small family business to a large, industrial company. And they're not just people who have had a good idea; they are also people who have managed to convert that idea into a marketable success.

Previous winners include Rob Small with an interactive online gaming company. He built his company from his bedroom from a one-product company to one with over 600 games and 43 million users. Another was Zuber Issa, who built a chain of 70 petrol garages and convenience stores from scratch without any private equity behind him.
