Magic E
An e at the end of a short word usually makes the vowel (a, e, i, o, u) sound like the name of the letter.

When you add letters (for example -er -est) to words with short vowel sounds, you must write a double letter to keep that short vowel sound. fat fatter wet wetter thin thinner hop hopped sun sunny
