In Paris, the flora and fauna alike

are very diversified. There are
more than 1290 animal species.
A lot of exotic animals like
fennecs, Florida turtles, jackdaws
(birds), jellyfishes or falcons
adapted to this urban
environment.

Il existe 32 espèces de
mammifères sauvages dont 11
sont protégés. La fouine et le
renard roux sont des animaux
nocturnes qui en font partie.

When Parisians are asked to quote
the name of wild animals in Paris,
they spontaneously think of birds.
Indeed, Paris conceals many rare
and unexpected birds; pigeons (not
especially rare), kestrels,
goldfinches, tawny owls, gulls,
nightingales and many others.
The most famous Parisian bird is
the pigeon.

Its excretion is a nuisance to

public domains, owing to its
corrosiveness.

“biset pigeons” in Paris.

35 species of fish and 44 species
of molluscs in the capital.

Many different species of fish can

now swim in the river Seine. One
can find picks, eels, trouts...
jellyfishes and even sponges
living in the deep waters of the
River Seine.
Molluscs can be found in canals
such as the Saint-Martin canal, or
the Ourcq canal.
One wouldn’t like to miss the
famous hairy snail which loses its
hairs as it grows old, moulds or
slugs.

Insects can be found in the woods

and the parks of Paris and its
outskirts.

chevreuils ont fui les bois à cause
de la modification et de la sur
fréquentation des lieux.
