Who is Al-Shatibi ? How did he presented his theory of maqasid ?

Al-Imam Al-Shatibi
His full name was "Ibrahim bin Mousa bin Muhammad al-Shatibi al-Gharnati". He was an Andalusian Sunni Islamic legal scholar following the Malkite school. He died in 1388 (790 H) in Granada. His surnames were "Al-Lakhmi", Abu Ishaq "AlGharnati", "Al-Maliki" and "As-Shatibi".

His knowledge
He learned from very prominent scholars of his time. Some of them were natives of Granada , and some of them had come to Granada from elsewhere. He became a master in Arabic language and Ijtihad and research at a very early age. He used to discuss various topics with his teachers before arriving to any conclusion.

His books.
) ( )Al Aitesaam ) This famous book of Imam Shatibi is the ultimate encyclopedia on the topic of defining religious innovations. It consists of 10 chapters. ) ( Al-Muwafaqaat fi Usool al-Sharia . This is also one of Imam Shatibi's best known books. It is on the topic of Islamic Jurisprudence and Maqasid Al-Sharia (higher objectives). ) ) Kitab al-Majalis ( book -Kitab .This book included commentary on Sahih Al Bukhari) Al-Biyooh. Kitab Al-ifadaat wa Al-inshadaat .)) This book included two volumes on Literature.

Al-Muwafaqat The book of Al-Maqasid


Al-Shatibi had been intending to title the book Tarifb Asrar Al-Taklif)( An Introduction to the Mysteries of Accountability Before the Divine Law. However, he abandoned this title in favor of all Muwafaqat based on a vision which a respected Sheikh of his had.

The five parts of Al-Muwafaqat


Part 1:- contains needed introductions to the books theme. Part 2:- deals with legal rulings, how they are conceptualized, and how judgments are made by means of them, or on them. Part 3:- deals with the higher objectives of Islamic Law and the rulings relating to that matter. Part 4:- deals with the categorization of legal evidence. And in what ways evidence may be put to use in rulings on peoples actions. Part 5:- deals with rulings having to with independent , reasoning, imitation and those who engage in one or the other.
