Abstract Recently, azimuthing podded propulsion system (pod propulsion) take more famous than others. This electric propulsion system not only for cruiser ships or passenger ships application but also for tanker, cargo, LNG and another merchant ship type. The main advantage of podded propulsion that flow produced by propeller is more uniform than conventional propulsion system. The hydrodynamic efficiency reach up to 10-15 percent than conventional propulsion (shafting). The thrust produced by pull type propeller was reduced by pod body where create the body resistance. In order to perform the optimal propeller thrust therefore the pod geometry shall be optimized for reduce the pod resistance and more uniform flow. In this final project, the pod geometry will be modeling and simulating to get the optimal thrust. The analysis will be perform mathematically and with computational fluid dynamic (CFD) aided.
