Psalm 98

PSALM 98 1

Sing a new song to the Lord, he to whom wonders belong; rejoice in his triumph and tell of his power, O sing to the Lord a new song! Now to the ends of the earth see his salvation is shown; and still he remembers his mercy and truth, unchanging in love to his own. Sing a new song and rejoice, publish his praises abroad; let voices in chorus, with trumpet and horn, resound for the joy of the Lord! Join with the hills and the sea thunders of praise to prolong; in judgement and justice he comes to the earth, O sing to the Lord a new song! based on Psalm 98 Timothy Dudley-Smith (b. 1926)

Sing all creation, sing to God in gladness; joyously serve him, singing hymns of homage, chanting his praises, come before his presence: praise the Almighty! Know that our God is Lord of all the ages; he is our maker: we are all his creatures, people he fashioned, sheep he leads to pasture: praise the Almighty! Enter his temple, ringing out his praises; sing in thanksgiving as you come before him; blessing his bounty, glorify his greatness: praise the Almighty! Womb of life and source of being, home of every restless heart, in your arms the worlds awakened; you have loved us from the start. We, your children, gather round you at the table you prepare. Sharing stories, tears, and laughter, we are nurtured by your care. Word in esh, our brother Jesus, born to bring us second birth, you have come to stand beside us, knowing weakness, knowing earth. Priest who shares our human struggles, Life of life, and Death of death, risen Christ, come stand among us, send the Spirit by your breath. Brooding Spirit, move among us; be our partner, be our friend. When our memory fails, remind us whose we are, what we intend. The Being of God Holy and One

God, we praise you. God, we bless you. God, we name you sovereign Lord. Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your church adored: all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne singing Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts and God alone! True apostles, faithful prophets, saints who set their world ablaze, martyrs, once unknown, unheeded, join one growing song of praise, while your Church on earth confesses one majestic Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God, our hope eternally. Jesus Christ, the King of glory, everlasting Son of God, humble was your virgin mother, hard the lonely path you trod: by your cross is sin defeated, hell confronted face to face, heaven opened to believers, sinners justied by grace. Christ, at Gods right hand victorious, you will judge the world you made; Lord, in mercy help your servants for whose freedom you have paid: raise us up from dust to glory, guard us from all sin today; King enthroned above all praises, save your people, God, we pray. God, who made the earth, declared it good in the beginning, planned a time and purpose for all things that were and would be. While earth remains, there will be seed-time and harvest, summer sun and winter moon, the dead of night, the bright day. Though humanity deled the Eden God had cherished, God did not despise the world; its worth he always could see. God, in Christ, then came from paradise to imperfection, repossessing earth and people through a tomb and tree. Wood though felled to earth produced a ower that will not perish, seed, though dead and fallen, burst to life and rose up again. Korean text, source unknown English version John L. Bell (b. 1949)

Our Response to God in the stewardship of the earth

Touch the earth lightly, use the earth gently, nourish the life of the world in our care: gift of great wonder, ours to surrender, trust for the children tomorrow will bear. We who endanger, who create hunger, agents of death for all creatures that live, we who would foster clouds of disaster, God of our planet, forestall and forgive! Let there be greening, birth from the burning, water that blesses and air that is sweet, health in Gods garden, hope in Gods children, regeneration that peace will complete. God of all living, God of all loving, God of the seedling, the snow, and the sun, teach us, deect us, Christ re-connect us, using us gently and making us one. Shirley Erena Murray (b. 1931)

Christ Incarnate Christmas and Epiphany

Jesus is born: formed in a womb and now a baby, Jesus is born. Swaddled and small he sleeps in hay. Setting aside his power and glory, homeless he enters human story: Christ comes to earth. Jesus is born: angels announce a joyful message, Jesus is born. Peace on the earth, goodwill to all. This is the hour God shows his favour, sending his Son, creations Saviour: Hope comes to earth. Jesus is born: high overhead a star is shining, Jesus is born. Earth houses uncreated light. Now is the hold of darkness broken as hearts and minds to God are opened: Light comes to earth. Jesus is born: this night the world is changed for ever. Jesus is born, and in this babe, for all to see, Love is revealed; Gods heart lies open as the incarnate Word is spoken: God comes to earth. Great things he has done! O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; for every oender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. The Church Celebrates - Death and Grieving

When we are living, we are in the Lord, and when were dying, we are in the Lord; for in our living and in our dying we belong to God, we belong to God. Each day allows us to decide for good, loving and serving as we know we should; in thankful giving, in hopeful living, we belong to God, we belong to God. Sometimes we sorrow, other times embrace, sometimes we question everything we face; yet in our yearning is deeper learning: we belong to God, we belong to God. Till earth is over may we always know love never fails us: God has made it so. Hard times will prove us, never remove us; we belong to God, we belong to God. verse 1 Mexican traditional verses 2-4 Roberto Escamilla (b. 1931) English version John L. Bell (b. 1949)
