India witnesss more than 17.9 million annual foreign tourist arrivals and 740 million domestic tourism visits. The tourism industry in India generated about 100 US$ billion in 2008 and that is expected to increase to US$275.5 billion by 2018 at a 9.4% annual growth rate. In the year 2010, 17.9 million foreign tourists visited India. The importance of tourism is not only the foreign exchange it brings in but, more importantly, in the employment it generates at several locations and in several layers of society -- ranging from airline staff to hotel employees and scooter-taxi wallahs. To design a product/service combination that provides real value to targeted customers, motivates purchase, and fulfills genuine customer needs. The ten Ps of travel, tourism and hospitality marketing are recommended they are product, price, place, promotion, partnership, packaging, programming, positioning, people and planning. Successful marketing means putting the customer first. If you follow The Ten Ps of Tourism Marketing, your customers will come first because you will be able to understand them better. You will also make more effective use of your marketing dollars and, by doing so, increase your profits. Under the existing Hospitality programme which is an important part of Marketing plan, the Ministry of Tourism invites editorial teams of travel publications, travel agents, tour operators subject specialists, opinion makers etc., from foreign countries to effectively project India as an attractive multidimensional tourist destination offering a vast range of attractions.
