McGuinty stonewalls as power plant walls continue to go up

NEWS: MISSISSAUGA -- PC Energy Critic Vic Fedeli is demanding Dalton McGuinty tell Ontario taxpayers how much the continued construction of the cancelled Mississauga power plant will cost them. Fedeli, the MPP for Nipissing, visited the site for the first time Wednesday since being named PC Energy Critic. Just a day earlier, Dalton McGuinty refused to answer questions about the plant when pressed by reporters. During the recent election campaign, the McGuinty Liberals pledged that the gas-powered plant would be scrapped and moved elsewhere. Yet some 40 days after the election, work to build the facility continues. This was nothing more than a seat saver move by Dalton McGuinty, said Fedeli. It certainly wasnt a cost saving move for the Ontario taxpayer. QUOTES: We suspect Dalton McGuinty has no intention of closing this plant and that its simply going to become his next broken promise. -- Vic Fedeli, Ontario PC Energy Critic Where is the accountability? Ontario taxpayers deserve to know how much theyre paying for each day that work continues. -- Vic Fedeli, Ontario PC Energy Critic QUICK FACTS:

On September 24, 2011 just 12 days before the provincial election Dalton McGuinty announced he was scrapping the controversial gas power plant in Mississauga. Today, construction continues. In October 2010, Dalton McGuinty announced he was scrapping a $1.2 billion, 900-megawatt power plant in Oakville that was already under construction. He has yet to reveal how much it will cost taxpayers for breaking the contract. The Liberals decision to kill controversial gas-powered generating plants in two Grit-held GTA ridings will cost Ontario taxpayers more than $1 billion, an industry source says.
