NEWS RELEASE FEDELI ISSUES WAKE-UP CALL ON BROKEN ENERGY POLICY

NORTH BAY, ON Nipissing MPP and PC Energy Critic Vic Fedeli wants Dalton McGuinty to tell Ontarians why hes wasting hundreds of millions of ratepayer dollars through sale of surplus power. Dalton McGuinty needs to explain why he has paid the United States and Quebec over $420 million so far this year to take power off of our hands, while families and businesses are struggling to pay their hydro bills, Fedeli said Friday. This is a startling wake-up call for Ontarians. A column in Fridays National Post asserts Ontario exports power at an average price of 3.38 cents per kilowatt hour, while the real average price of electricity in Ontario through the first 10 months of this year was actually 7 cents per kilowatt hour. It also states that adding intermittent wind and solar production to the provincial grid has done nothing more than drive up the price of a basic need and benefited companies in New York and elsewhere. A big part of the problem is the Feed-in-Tariff program which pays wind and solar energy producers rates several times above the actual market cost of electricity, Fedeli said. Were paying above-market prices for renewable energy that the grid doesnt need, then selling it elsewhere when its not needed below cost, said Fedeli. This is sheer madness and further proof Dalton McGuintys disjointed energy policy isnt keeping costs down for families as he claims in fact its costing us all a fortune.
