Math Lesson Plan

Major Concept Multiplication Bingo - Multiplication Skills Grade/Age Grades 3-5

Learning Objectives 1. Children will exercise their multiplication skills and learn to multiply quickly. Materials 1. 2. 3. 4. Paper Writing utensil Deck of multiplication problems Multiplication table Lesson Have the students create a table or two of five rows and five columns. Have them write down answers to multiplication problems in each square of the table. (If needed, have the multiplication table available for the children to refer to.) When the students have finished their bingo cards the game can begin. The teacher will draw cards from the deck and read aloud the multiplication problem. Students will draw an X through the correct answer on their card (if they chose to use that answer on their card). When a student creates a row or column of Xs they should call out bingo and retrieve a prize. The game can begin again and repeat as many times as time will allow. Application Activity You can practice multiplication tables aloud in class by having the children take turns calling out the answers to certain problems. You can also write a number of multiplication problems on the board and have groups of two to three students come up and write the correct answers to each problem. You can time them and award those that finish first. Follow-up/Homework You can have the students take quizzes often. Have the students practice a number of problems each night at home with family. Encourage them to use the multiplication bingo game. Resources Used Lesson Plans Page (1996-2011) Retrieved October 3, 2011 from http://www.lessonplanspage.com
