Barriers:
Communication may not always be successful. Certain barriers can affect the clarity, accuracy, and the effectiveness of the message. Several things can prevent the message from reaching as intended. These could be mechanical devices or the tools used for communicating or even at the encoding / decoding stage.
Psychological Barriers: Problems that arise out of an individuals understanding, interpretation and response to communication due to socially learnt attributes (i.e. nurture) and due to his personal attributes (i.e. nature) are called psychological barriers
Percetual:
Perceptual barriers are those experiences that cause a distortion of the communication. For example, if the receiver of the communication is untrusting because of past experiences then he may form an opinion of what is being communicated without effectively listening. Another example of perceptual communication is when the sender of the communication has low self-esteem and therefore does not convey his message with conviction. In this case, the strong words will not convince the listener because the perception of the communicator is that he does not believe in the message.
Emotional:
Many times, emotional barriers on your part or the part of the person you are speaking with may inhibit your ability to communicate on an effective level.
