WHAT IS MOTIVATION ??
MOTIVATION IS THE INNER DRIVING FORCE THAT ACTIVATES OUR MOVES e.g. WISHES,DESIRES THAT EMERGES FROM WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL MOTIVATION ALSO MEANS THE MOVEMENT TOWARDS BALANCE.

MOTIVATION IS DERIVED FROM THE LATIN WORD MOVERE MEAN TO MOVE THUS IT STANDS FOR MOVEMENT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE HOMEOSTATIC MECHANISM.

THE WILLINGNESS OF AN INDIVIDUAL TO REACT TO THE ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS IN THE SHORT RUN. THE GREATER THE MAGNITUDE OF POSITIVE MOTIVATION THERE IS GREATER LIKELIHOOD THAT THE PERSON WILL PERFORM EFFECTIVELY. MOTIVATION HAS EFFECT OF THE CLOSELY RELATED GROUP,WHAT WE PERCEIVE.

THIS THEORY STATES THAT THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS THE OPTIMAL LEVEL OF AROUSAL RATHER THAN THE MINIMAL LEVEL THAT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON TO PERSON. IF THE LEVEL OF AROUSAL IS NO UP TO THE MARK THEN THE PERSON WOULD NOT HAVE ENOUGH MOTIVATION TO PERFORM A WORK.

MASLOWS STATED THAT THE HUMAN NEEDS ARE BASED ON THE HIERARCHICAL ORDER WHERE THE BASIC NEEDS ARE AT THE LOWEST LEVEL FOLLOWS THE HIERARCHY FROM LOWEST TO THE HIGHEST ORDER AS PHYSIOLOGICAL,SAFETY,SOCIAL,ESTEEM, SELFSELF-ACTUALIZATION

Mac Gregor classified people into two categories X & Y Category y People are hard working. Looking forward to new responsibilities. Need very less motivation. Category x People are lazy Do not like extra responsibilities. Managers need to keep a close eye on such people. Managers need to put in extra efforts to motivate.
