Photography Inspired Poetry Assignment If a picture is worth a thousand words, and a poem is full of imagery, the two must

go hand in hand. Photography is said to be poetic. Can you create poetry from an image? Using photos from the Library of Congresss American Memory Project write a poem that captures in words the imagery or theme of the photo of your choosing. All of the photos are from the Great Depression until World War II (Roughly 1930-1940). Be sure to do the following: Choose a photo that somehow speaks to you Spend some time looking at it and thinking about it Think about what sort of poetic imagery might capture the mood, idea, or tone of the photo Write several drafts of this poem Have your writing group look at your photo and read your poem and give you feedback Use your rubric to help you! This will be a rubric-graded assignment. It is due on Friday, February 17.
