Abstract In this experiment, the goals in doing this experiment is to demonstrate the open loop and close loop

analysis for various control loops as well as acquiring a skill to obtain an optimum controller setting based on Zeiglar-Nicholss and Cohen-Coons tuning rules. The experiment is divided into two phase, which is, open loop test and close loop test for mass flow control, water level and water flow. In open loop test, the MV is increased by 10% and it is left until the new steady state is achieved. Based from the open loop test, process gain, time delay, time constant and response rate (RR) values are calculated, both using tangent and reformulated tangent method. The values are, 11.48,0.06s,2.7s and 0.792 for level controller, 1262.62, 0.0162s, 0.0198s and 63.13 for flow controller, 0.6667, 7.55s, 22.5s and 0.066 for PIC 92 controller. Based from the calculation, reformulated tangent give more accurate results compared to tangent method. Next, all the values will be used to determine the optimum PI. The optimum value of PI is calculated using Zeiglar-Nicholss and Cohen-Coons tuning rules. The values of kc and I are 21.086 and 0.078s for level controller, 1.05 and 0.02s for flow controller, and finally, for PIC 92, 2.081 and 14.85s. Even though both methods use different approach in calculating the value of kc and I, the value differences is small. Thus, any method can be used. For closed loop test, it is further divided into 2 tests, namely load disturbance and set point change test. Before proceeding with this test, the system needs to ensure to be stable. Thus, fine tuning method is used. Theoretically, it can be gain by lowering the kc and increase the I values. Load disturbance test is done by manipulating the MVvalue by 10%. Then, the response curve was observed. At first, it can be seen that the response curve deviates from the set point. However, after a few moments, the response curve is back to the set point. The test was repeated with different parameters. Finally, the set point test is conducted. The test was done by changing the value of set point and the response curve is observed. The response curve was able to reach the set point after a few moment. Thus, the experiment goal is reached.
