Abstract Car has been used for many activities in daily life especially for transportation. Comfort and safety are considered much nowadays in riding. Suspension system has a signicant impact in comfort and safety in riding a car. Therefore to model the suspension system can be an advantage in designing and production a car. The widely-used model of car suspension system didnt consider the tyre as mass-springdamper model. In this research, a 4-wheel car is assummed as a rigid body which consist of the sprung and the unsprung system. The sprung system consists of car-body mass, car-suspension, and the driver (or passenger). The unsprung system consists of the others parts of the car that is not supported by the car-suspension such as tires, wheel, brake, etc. Each parts simplied by mass-spring-damper model. The motion of this system consists of a translational motion of the center of mass (up-down) and a rotational motion about the center of mass (left-right, and front-back). Thence the system has 3 degree of freedom model. The specication from The Ninth International Pacic Conference on Automotive Engineering is used in the model. The mathematical model of the sprung and the unsprung system of the 4-wheel car derived by using the Newton Law. There are 5 second-order dierential equation which is from the-sprung system and from the 4-unsprung system. Then the model simulate using Simulink Software to get the response of several inputs. The input of the system is the displacements of each tyres that indicates the surface of the road. Three kinds of input is used in simulation such as step-input, bump, and sinusoidal input. The simulation vary the value of each parameters such as mass, spring constant, damper constant of the sprung-system and also the paramaters of the unsprung-system. From the simulation can be concluded that the maximum-amplitude in each direction (up-down, leftright, front-back) of the center of mass is smaller (but vary in value) compare to the common model (which is not consider the tyre as mass-spring-damper model).
