He is a normal sailor on the Pequod who goes on the journey because he loves the ocean Captain Ahab - Captain of the ship called the Pequod Queequeg - harpooner (someone who kills sea animals, esp. whales, with a harpoon gun) from Kokovoko Starbuck - the chief mate of the Pequod Dough Boy - the cook on the Pequod Peter Coffin - owner of the Spouter-Inn Flask - third mate on the Pequod Tashtego - He is an Indian who becomes the harpooner for Stubb on the Pequod Daggoo - a large African man who becomes the harpooner for Flask Pip - a young black man and a crew member of the Pequod who replaces one of Stubb's oarsman Elijah - A stranger that Ishmael and Queequeg meet while staying in Nantucket. Asks if they have met Ahab and if they have sold their souls to the devil by agreeing to sail on the Pequod Captain Peleg - A retired sailor and former captain of the Pequod. Also what the book says is a "fighting Quaker" who owns the ship along with Bildad Captain Bildad - The owner of the Pequod along with Peleg. Also a fighting Quaker who looks down upon the crews crude words Flask - The third mate on the ship, Flask plays a much less prominent role than the other mates like Starbuck or Stubb Bulkington - crewman on the Pequod Characters in Chapter 40 with no names:
