Physical Education Scope and Sequence @ Chatsworth East

Students will gain an understanding of the factors that contribute to developing and maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle. They will see the importance of regular physical activity, the bodys response to exercise and the importance of developing basic motor skills. They will develop an understanding of the bodys potential for movement and expression. Students will learn to promote safety, taking responsibility for themselves and others to promote well-being, cooperation and team work. They will make informed choices and evaluating consequences, taking action for healthy living now and in the future.

Expectations
1. Learners show an awareness of how exercise, can have an impact on our lives. 2. They understand that their bodies change as they grow. 3. They explore the bodys capacity for movement through participating in a range of physical activities. 4. Learners recognize the need for safe participation when interacting in a range of physical contexts. 5. Learners interact with others, cooperating and communicating in developmentally appropriate ways. 6. Learners are aware that their behavior affects others and are able to identify when their actions have an impact. 7. Learners have an awareness of themselves and how they are similar and different to others 8. Learners reflect on their experiences in order to use these for future learning and to understand themselves better.

Understandings
1. Our daily physical activities can have an impact on our well-being. 2. We can explore our bodys capacity for movement. 3. Our bodies can move creatively in response to different stimuli. 4. Safe participation requires respecting space and following rules. 5. Interacting with others can be fun. 6. Positive group experiences depend on cooperation of group members. 7. Our behavior affects others. 8. As people grow and change they develop new skills, understandings and abilities. 9. Positive thoughts lead to positive attitudes 10. Developing independence builds self worth, confidence and personal responsibility.

Outcomes
1. Engage in a variety of different physical activities 2. Identify some of the effects of physical activity on the body 3. Develop a range of fine and gross motor skills 4. To listen and to follow instructions and to move safely in our environment 5. Explore creative movement in response to different stimuli 6. Enjoy interacting, playing and engaging with others 7. Phase 1 (K1 & K2)

Expectations
1. Learners recognize the importance of being physically active. 2. They explore, use and adapt a range of fundamental movement skills in different physical activities. 3. They are aware of how the bodys capacity for movement develops as it grows. 4. They understand their personal responsibilities to themselves and to others in relation to safety practices. 5. Learners recognize their responsibilities when interacting, playing and learning with others. 6. They understand that participation in groups require them to cooperate and to assume different roles. 7. Learners make informed choices regarding different strategies that help them approach challenges and new situations with confidence

Understandings
1. Regular exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle. 2. Growth can be measured through changes in capability as well as through physical changes. 3. We can apply a range of fundamental movement skills to a variety of activities. 4. Proactive and responsible behavior can contribute to personal safety and the safety of others. 5. Participation in a group can require group members to take on different roles and responsibilities. 6. Accepting others into a group builds openmindedness. 7. Our actions toward others influence their actions toward us. 8. Being aware of our skills, abilities and limitations help us adjust to new situations with confidence 9. Different challenges require different strategies

Outcomes

Phase 2 (Yr 1 & 2)

Expectations
1. Learners understand the factors that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. 2. They understand that they can enhance participation in physical activities through developing an interest in at least one active physical sport or endeavor and regularly participate in it. 3. Learners understand that there are potential positive and negative outcomes for risk-taking behaviors. 4. Learners understand that group work can be enhanced through planning and through identifying and utilizing the strengths of individual group members. 5. Learners explore, reflect and refine the strategies they use to face new challenges and to overcome adversity 6. Leaners are aware that developing self reliance and persisting with tasks independently will support their efforts to become life long learners.

Understandings
1. Identifying and participating in activities we enjoy can motivate us to maintain a healthy lifestyle 2. Attention to technique and regular practice can improve the efficiency of our movements. 3. A positive and confident outlook when taking calculated risks can maximize enjoyment and promote safety. 4. An effective group capitalizes on the strengths of each individual member. 5. Healthy relationships are nurtured by developing respect, empathy and compassion. 6. Understanding ourselves helps us to understand and empathize with others. 7. Increasing our self -reliance and persistence support our efforts to become more independent.

Phase 3 (Yr 3 & 4)

Expectations
1. Learners understand the interconnectedness of the factors that contribute to a safe and healthy lifestyle, and set goals and identify strategies that will help improve their physical skills and fitness. 2. They understand that they can enhance participation in physical activities through developing and maintaining physical fitness, reflecting on technique and performance, and refining movement skills. 3. They apply movement skills appropriately, and develop plans to help refine movements, improve performance and enhance participation in a range of physical contexts. 4. Learners understand that they can experience intrinsic satisfaction and personal growth from interactions with others in teams, pairs and groups. 5. Learners understand that being emotionally aware, stable and confident will help them manage themselves and their relationships 6. Learners apply, reflect and adapt strategies that develop resilience to cope with needed change and challenges.

Understandings
1. We can develop and maintain physical fitness by applying basic training principles. 2. There is a positive connection between exercise and physical well-being. 3. Setting personal goals and developing plans to achieve these goals can enhance performance. 4. Knowing ones limits and using moderation are strategies for maintaining a safe and healthy lifestyle. 5. An effective group can accomplish more than a set of individuals. 6. An individual can experience both intrinsic satisfaction and personal growth from social interactions. 7.
