He flashed his crooked smile, then said "i lit up like a christmas tree, hazel grace.

the lining of my chest, my left hip, my liver, everywhere".

After hazel has water drained from her lungs, she's hit with the fact thaat gus has cancer, eveywhere in his body. while hazel is sleeping, gus takes a PET scan. it detects cancer, and lights up wherever the cancer is. unfortunately, agustus has it everywhere. up until now, gus has just been "on a rollercoaster that only goes up". he had been healthy, free from cancer, but it all just suddenly came back. From that moment, hazel knew gus would never get to grow old or probavbly even get married or have kids.

Funerals, I had decided, are for the living.

Before gus's fujneral, he asked hazel to write a eulogy for him so he coud attend his own funeral, and she did. she wrote one that she knew gus would like, but at the funeral she wrote a completly diiffrt one. she wrote on tha tshe knew woulfd make gus's parents haooy, because she had decided that funerals weren;t really for the dead, they were for the living, so they coluld have their closure.

gus takes hazel to amsterdam as his wish from the genies. hazel really wanted to go, because an author she loves invited them there. when they get there, it turns out that the author only invited tehm because he though that there wouldnt be a ny way for them to come to amsterdam. the author is actually just a drunk old jerk who is a shadow of the author hazel ooked up to.

hazel grace is a sixteen year old girl with lung cancer.in the beginning of the book, she doesnt'st get out much and her mom has to force her to go to a support group for kids with cancer. thats where the meets augustus waters.

augustus waters is seventeen and attends support group one day to support his friend who will soon go blind because of eye cancer. When he introducs himself he sais he had fagawgawgha cancer and they had to amputate(?) his leg, but that hes cured now. unfortunately, he hets cancer every ]whare later in the book.
