ABSTRACT

CAILAO, CHRISTIAN JAY L. and DIONISIO B. MOJICA. Geographic Accessibility Analysis of Tertiary School Facilities in upland Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis/Special Problem. Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering, college of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2006.Adviser: Allan Rowel V. Alonalon.

The study was conducted in the municipalities of Alfonso, Amadeo, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, Silang, Ternate and the city of Tagaytay from July 2005 to January 2006.

The study aimed to provide thorough evaluation on the accessibility of the populace to the different tertiary school facilities in Upland Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to identify different factors affecting accessibility of different tertiary schools; determin the current accessibility of the existing tertiary facilities using Isochrone maps and recommend future sites for new tertiary schools.

An investigation of three main factors affecting accessibility, which are population, transportation, and tertiary school facilities were conducted populations of the different municipalities were determined and projected up to year 2030. Spatial distributions of barangays were considered being the basic unit of analysis. Transport networks were also considered by taking the distances and road conditions. Transportation costs were also determined using the most commonly used transport modes. Locations, capacity and courses offered by the different tertiary school facilities

were identified. Geographic Information system (GIS) was used to integrate, analyze and display spatial data to determine the level of accessibility of the school facilities.

Generally, the study found that the existing tertiary school facilities of Upland Cavite accessible to the populace except for some barangays in southern part of Cavite which belong to the municipalities of Alfonso, Magallanes, Maragondon and Gen. E. Aguinaldo.

In the end, the authors found GIS and Isochrone map to be an effective tool in accessibility analysis.
