Present Simple

When do we use it? Actions that happen regularly (habits, routines, etc): I go to shcool every day Things that are true in general The night is dark

Affirmative

We add s or es when we talk about HE, SHE or IT We add s when the verb finishes in e or in a consonant: Mafalda hates soup Garfield loves his Teddy bear It rains a lot in the UK We add es when the verb finishes in a vowel or in H (ch, th, sh) Charlie Brown always catches the baseball balls. Sponge Bob bathes every day She watches The Simpsons every day He always does his homework When we talk about I, YOU, WE, THEY, the verb DOESNT THEY, CHANGE. I wash my hands before every meal We brush our hair every morning They go to school by bus Careful!!! CAN is ALWAYS CAN She can run I can play the piano He can bake cakes

Negative In negative form, we use auxiliary DO in the negative form HE, SHE, IT

Auxiliary do changes to does, because we add es. But we want the negative, so we have DOESNT (or does not). Because we have the doesnt, the verb goes in the infinitive form Mafalda doesnt like soup Garfield doesnt hate his Teddy bear Snoopy doesnt chatch many balls I, YOU, WE, THEY Auxiliary do doesnt change. The verbs dont change, because we already have the auxiliary. You dont like Present Simple We dont wake up early

Interrogative form Again, we use auxiliary do

Where does she live? What does he like? When does the sun set? How do you do that?

Do you like football? Does she sing well? Does it rain regularly?
