BEgS> THE TWENTY YEAR AVERAGE ATMOSPHERIC STRUCTURE AT LIMA , PERU By JAY ANTHONY ALBRECHT FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA 32306 Reference FSU-MET-STU 81-1 Prepared Under NSF Grant ATM 78 - 10814 June 1981 PREFACE This grant has undertaken a study of the temporal and spatial fluctuations of the atmospheric marine boundary layer along the Peruvian coast. During tais study one effort has been to instrument a Peruvian aircraft to make seasonal flights extending 200 km offshore along the whole coast of Peru. Such an aircraft is now being operated by a Peruvian team tr. ned by this grant. That work continues under a co- operative program called Project VACOM (Atmospheric Vigilance of Meteorological and Oceanographic Conditions). Future reports will present data from thet project. Before the aircraft data were yet available, an effort was launched to uncover the atmospheric structure as revealed by the only coastal rawinsonde station in Peru - namely iima. This report deals with the structural changes in the lowest 300 mb over Lima using data from the Lima rawinsonde from its first installation in 1957, This report by Jay A. Albrecht represents his thesis submitted for the M.S. degree in Meteo- rology at the Florida State University. David W.
