Myth 1 : Asylum Seekers are illegal.

Every person has the rights to seek asylum under the declaration of Human Rights. It is not illegal in Australia to seek asylum. We have 50, 000 people in Australia who are illegal, but they are not asylum seekers. They are Visa over stayers. They are much more likely to be back packers. Myth 2: We are being flooded by boat people. Yet 90 % of people who seek asylum come to Australia by aeroplane. Myth 3: Most boat people arent genuine refugees. Yet 90 % of asylum claims last year were proved to be genuine. Myth 4: Boat people will harm our economy. Offshore processing of visa is costing our economy close to 1 Million dollars a day. We can quarter that cost by processing asylum seekers more humanely. Boat people represent only 3 % of migration. Only add to 1 % of population growth. They have been turned into political target by both sides of the politics (Government and the opposition). What this means is that they have been labelled as evil by these politicians who then justify themselves by putting them away offshore or detaining them endlessly and paint a bad picture of them. All this is to get votes. It is time to really think about the facts before we start making our opinion about boat people, asylum seekers and refugees.
