Loading Plates into the Cassette

Note: Before you begin, see Aligning the Spring Assembly and the Horizontal Positioning Guide in this chapter.

Cassette ID Number
A cassette number identification label may be attached to each cassette. The Palladio reads this label, recognizes which cassette is loaded, and performs operations according to the various parameters you have set for the plates loaded into that cassette. See Chapter 4, Entering Settings, for more detailed information. The cassette information includes plate parameters such as size, type (laser intensity and positive/negative), and quantity remaining in the cassette. The cassette information also includes press parameters such as grip, punch, edge, offset, and image centering information. If you load a cassette into the Palladio without this label, the Set Plate Cassette message appears on the display, and the Palladio will not operate until you enter settings. See Chapter 4, Entering Settings, for more information about these multi-use cassettes.

Understanding the Display Window

The display window displays status messages and error messages. The display window also displays parameters you have entered, and commands that you can execute.
s

Status display Displays messages indicating the current Palladio online/offline status. Also displays an operational request when the Palladio is in operation.

Error messages display Displays error messages when the current Palladio status is not normal, and after an error occurs during operation. A buzzer may also sound (see Chapter 6, Preference Settings). During the display of an error message, the Palladio will not operate. For information on clearing errors, see Chapter 8, Troubleshooting. To reset Palladio after you clear an error, press the enter button.

Operation Menu display The operation menu consists of two tiers. This is the menu you use to enter parameters for the plates and presses you use, as well as to set other parameters. See the Menu Tiers Chart in this chapter. This chart outlines the options in this menu. Refer to it as you read through this chapter and Chapter 4, Entering Settings. The chart illustrates the relationship between messages you see in the display window and information and commands you want to access.
s

The top tier includes menus that enable you to choose what type of action you want to take, and what type of information you want to enter. They are: CHANGE CAS-COND, CASSETTE PRESS, TYPE EXPOSURE, FEED DIMM, and SCSI VER BUZZER. Dedicated Cassettes and Multiple-Use Cassettes

If you have a separate cassette and trolley dedicated to each plate type you use, a cassette number identification label is attached to each cassette. The Palladio reads this label when the cassette is docked, and performs operations according to the various parameters you have set for those plates. If you have only one cassette and trolley that you use as a multiple-use unit, you change plate types in the cassette as needed. As there is no label for the Palladio to read, you input information into the Palladio each time you change the plates. The procedures for setting some information for dedicated and for multiple-use cassettes vary slightly. General information is given directly below. More specific instructions for each category of information follow.

Evaluating an Exposure Test

Refer to the exposure test diagram and locate the group of strips on your exposure test for the value currently set. Within this group, locate the strip labeled 5% and 95% dots, and the strip labeled 45 50% dots. View these strips through a microscope. Following is an example of the exposure pattern in the 5% and 95% dots strip. In an optimum exposure, like this one, the white and black dots are the same size. If the white dots are smaller, under exposure is indicated. If the black dots are smaller, over exposure is indicated.

54

Following is an example of the exposure pattern in the 45 50% dots strip. In an optimum exposure, like this one, the white and black squares are the same size. If the white squares are smaller, under exposure is indicated. If the black squares are smaller, over exposure is indicated.

If the exposure patterns are underexposed, evaluate the same strips in the next groups of strips in the positive direction. If the exposure patterns are over exposed, evaluate the same strips in the next groups of strips in the negative direction. Set the laser intensity to the value that corresponds to the group of strips that contains the best exposure.
