PILOT VETERINARY DIODE SURGICAL DIODE LASER

ENDOSCOPIC APPLICATIONS The diode laser can be used for endoscopic surgery since its laser light travels through a silica fiber or glass fiber that can be inserted into the endoscopic equipment. This allows the diode laser to reach sites where the CO2 laser cannot reach resulting in a wider range of surgical procedures and options. A C02 laser cannot be used for endoscopic surgery. The CO2 laser is equipped with an articulated arm as the C02 laser light is unable to travel through an optical fiber. CONTACT VS. NON-CONTACT A diode laser can be used with a Contact Method the same way that a metal scalpel is used. A diode laser used with a non-contact method will not cut the tissue because the diode laser light goes through the skin surface to treat pain, inflammation and wounds. CO2 lasers use only a Non Contact method, where the laser beam travels from the fiber tip to the affected area through the air. Using a CO2 laser requires skills to focus the laser on a specific point as the hand piece can wobble and the animal may move due to respiration. HEMOSTASIS A diode laser can incise vessels of 1 or 2mm in diameter with little or no bleeding. This superior hemostatic ability reduces the overall risks of surgery. The laser beam from a CO2 laser tends to be absorbed by water. This means that it is very difficult to stop bleeding through the formation of a vessel coagulation. It is possible to incise capillaries without bleeding, however, it is difficult to incise vessels of 1mm or larger without bleeding SIZE Diode lasers are compact weighing less than 10 lbs, providing greater ease of use and portability. This means that they will not take up much space in the facility and can be moved to other areas quickly and easily. CO2 lasers weigh over 40 lbs and are often over 3 feet in height USE & RELIABILITY Diode lasers are all electronic and optical, with very few moving parts. This simplicity is what makes them more cost-effective, compact and reliable. Quite reliable, but much larger, heavier, and more cumbersome than the diode laser. COSTS VS. ROI The operating life of the Diode Laser is estimated to be between 5,000 - 10,00 hours of usage. There are no annual calibrations required as with the C02 Laser; most hand pieces are re-usable and auto-clavable; in addition, purchase costs are significantly lower.
