ABSTRACT

ALVERASTINE, ANALEE S. Mindanao State University Marawi City, April 2011. Levels of Copper in Kinner Beach, Brgy. Ibo and Hinolawan River, Brgy. Magdugo of Toledo City, Cebu. Adviser: Gloria A. Oanes Ph. D. The study sought to 1.) To determine the level of copper in the different distances (0m, 5m, 10m) in the sediments of Kinner Beach and Hinolawan River of Toledo City. 2.) To determine if the level of copper in Kinner beach and Hinolawan River complies with the set standards. 3.) To determine the difference among the copper concentrations of the sediments from Kinner Beach and Hinolawan River. 4.) To determine the difference among the copper concentrations of the sediments 3 distances (0m, 5m, 10m) from Hinolawan River. 5.)To determine the difference among the copper concentrations of the sediments 3 distances (0m, 5m, 10m) from Kinner Beach. The study was conducted in February 2011 at Kinner Beach, Brgy. Ibo and Hinolawan River, Toledo City Cebu. There were three samples in each sampling area which were characterized by distances. For Kinner Beach the distances were (1) below the mouth of the pipe, (2) 5 m radius away from the mouth of the pipe and (3) 10 m radius away from the mouth of the pipe. In Hinolawan River, distances were (1) mouth of the river, (2) 5 m away from mouth of the river, and (3) 10 m away from the mouth of the river. The samples were brought to the Water Laboratory of the University of San Carlos. All of the sediment samples contained high level of copper concentration and exceeded the acceptable level based on the parameters used. Using Bonferroni Test, it was revealed that there was a highly significant difference in the copper concentration between the sediments from

Kinner Beach and Hinolawan River. There was a significant difference between the copper concentrations among the different distances of the sediments from Hinolawan River. Lastly, there was no significant difference between the copper concentrations among the different distances of the sediments from Kinner Beach.
