Final Statistics and tidbits from the first 2011 Muskegon Area Medication Disposal Event at the Muskegon

Fire Department April 28, 2012


Volunteers: 26 Companies Collaborated: 10 Number of Vehicles: 184 approx. Overall Medication Collected: 1,955 lbs approx. Controlled Substance AND Unknown Collected: 205 lbs approx. (tabs/caps such as Morphine, Vicodin, Valium, Phenobarbital and Oxycodone, Phenobarbital) Non-Controlled and Over-the Counter Collected: 685 lbs approx. (such as tabs/caps; patches, suppositories; liquids; eye drops/ear drops; insulin) Daily Program: 1,065 lbs approx. Sharps Collected: 205 lbs Residents arrived by foot and car for the event Aligned with the DEAs National Take Back Event & Muskegon Co HHW Take Back Took three trips to transport to incinerate facility Three different Police and Sheriff Departments participated (Muskegon County Sheriff, Muskegon Police & Norton Shores Police) One Fire Department (Muskegon Fire Department) 2 Pharmacists 5 Pharmacy Technicians 2 Nursing Students
