Nursing Theory: Dorothea Orems Self Care Theory

People should be self-reliant and responsible for their own care and others in their family needing care. This theory was chosen by the group since the patient manifested self care deficit as evidenced, she cannot do her activities of daily living alone, and she needs help from others in order to perform them. With the knowledge regarding this theory, it guided the group on how to implement nursing measures and interventions beneficial to the patient. The theory also helped the group on how to encourage the patient to be more independent and teach measures on how to care for herself. Dorothea Orems Self Care theory is more general. In the first place, the patient did not met her self-care demand before she was hospitalized, thus, she acquired self-care deficit even before she was hospitalized.
