Art Room My art room is a place of creativity where it is safe for children to experiment, explore and learn.

Through individual projects as well as group and collaborative projects art students learn about a variety of materials, art techniques, artists and artworks. Additionally students learn about the myriad of reasons people have made art throughout history. Through art making, brainstorming, quick writing, formal writing, graphing, discussion, critique, observation and many other techniques that tap into higher levels of thinking, children are continuously challenged and encouraged to explore. The curriculum is designed to strengthen visual skills, hand eye coordination, problem solving, help students make connections between content areas, develop and refine communication skills, promote self reflection and evaluation. Art history, art historical events Master and Master type artists and works are used as a platform to introduce students to a variety of information including the elements of art: Line, texture, space, shape, form, color & value. Students learn about geometric and organic shape by making cut outs and studying the work of Henri Matisse.

Students learn about pure color and pattern through the work of Matisse.

Students work collaboratively to transform traditional Mexican textiles into paintings. They had to utilize math skills and measurement to transfer the patterns from books onto the large format paper.
