A historian dealing with the past of the Serbs in Hungary in the 18th and 19th century must either directly or indirectly pay attention to members of the Tekelija family.
They occur in the Great Migration of the Serbs in 1690, in Rakoczys rebellion (1703

1711), at the military border, Serbian national-church synods or in the organization of

the Serb aristocratic and civil society in the 18th and 19th century. Their mentioning is
almost inevitable.
This work completes the picture of that well-known Serbian border-guard-aristocratic family in the Monarchy. The author starts with the founder of the family, the famous
captain Jovan Popovic Tekelija who led the army of Prince Eugene Savoy along the stars,
through the marshes and swamps to the battle at Senta (1697), enabling thus the victory
of the emperors army and winning the whole war (16831699). Following the social
activities of Tekelija, the author viewed the transformation of this family from borderguards (military) into civil character. The work ends by presenting its last, but by all means
the most important member Sava Tekelija, the great patron of the Serbian culture and the
founder of several charity institutions.
