4. Course Overview
In this course students will be guided through various areas of speaking necessary for the TOEFL iBT Speaking Exam, including (but not limited to) planning and arranging ideas; using graphic organizers to organize ideas; recognizing and utilizing appropriate structures and vocabulary; appropriately sequencing speech with the use of transitional devices and phrases; developing enhanced speaking skills and greater clarity (including improved pronunciation, intonation and pace); understanding and paraphrasing complex information in a clear and simplified way; conversing about topics and issues that are both academically rigorous and specialized in their content.

5. Assignments
This is not an assessed course, but you will be given speaking assignments to complete, based on the TOEFL iBT Speaking Test. These will be assessed and you will be given feedback on your responses based on the official TOEFL scoring rubric Texts: Students should buy a copy of How to Master Skills for the TOEFL iBT Speaking (Intermediate) published by Darakwon. All other materials will be provided by the instructor, including any articles related to discussions, topics. Students should have
internet access to complete the assignments and to access the TOEFL Speaking class website with helpful resources and materials.

3&4 (practice) Developing reading and listening skills (part 2) Extracting information on specific subjects Listening and drawing meaning from a talk Assessment #4: Integrated Speaking Tasks 3 & 4- (evaluated) Developing Academic vocabulary Fluency fixing (prepositions, articles, pronunciation, etc.) Relaying information (figures, statistics, etc.) Assignment #5: Integrated Speaking Tasks 5&6 (practice) Discussion of specific topics featured in the TOEFL exam (building awareness) Grammar workshops (focusing on grammar issues established through the class) Vocabulary development Assignment #6: Integrated Speaking Tasks 5&6 (Evaluated) Repeated practice of all the exam components Student feedback (troubleshooting) In-class practice of all the iBT elements Assignment 7: All 4 components of the TOEFL iBT Speaking Exam
