Every summer, my older brother Adam and I go up to Indiana to my grandparents house where we hang out with my older cousin

Chad. Since my grandparents live out in the country, us kids always end up trying to find trouble, but the most memorable summer was in 1996 when I was five years old. Chad! Will you go outside with me? I whined to my cousin as I put on my pink sandals. Now, you two arent allowed to go past the apple trees or the row of ferns at the end of the yard. Do you understand? my Gramma warned us before Chad could even answer me. Alright Heather, lets go. Dont worry Gramma, we will stay out of trouble. Well, I know how that girl likes to wonder out of site, Chad, the worrywart stated. As she was still lecturing, we yelled from the door, Bye Gramma! and we were on our way into the huge country yard. Once I climbed down the first step, I felt a push and I heard a Tag! Youre it! Chad started racing toward the apple trees. Hey, wait up! I whined. Chad made it to the apple trees and kept running and running. He glanced back at me with a sneaky look in his eyes, and he pushed his way through the ferns, and was now gone. I looked back at the house and made sure Gramma wasnt looking and I stumbled through the ferns right after Chad. On the other side of the yard, Chad was standing there gazing at what lie before us. Holy cow! That is the biggest field I have ever seen! he said. Chad, look! Theres a little path that leads to those trees next to the field! I gave him a little grin. Tag, youre it! And we were off again (but this time through the field). Im going to beat you to the trees, slow poke! shouted Chad. I ended up beating Chad, but I think he let me win. We both took a glance around this forest we were in. Whoa! Look at that stream, and why are there old pots next to this tree? Heather, lets go exploreI have a pocket knife. We were walking along the stream a little ways when I stepped on something limp. I looked down to see something blue. Chad, what is this? I asked. Chad picked up the huge material and examined it. Oh, cool! Its an old tent and tied around it are the strings used to hold it up! Lets set it up around this tree. Can we sleep here tonight?! I was getting really excited. Yeah! And we should give this place a name like its our own land! Chad suggested. Yeah, yeah, yeah! I screamed excitedly. But what should we call it? I was having a hard time thinking up a name when Chad decided, We should call it Moose Mountain after Grampa Moose. Now grab me those ropes so we can get this tent set up. We were just finishing up the pathetic job with the tent when a bush started rattling, A moose is coming to eat us! Ah! I screamed. Chadddd, what is that over there?! I yelled as I hid behind him.

IIdont mumbled Chad. Just then, Adam jumped out of the bush. Whoa, hey guys, cool set-up! Here, let me help you fix this tent, he said. Adam was becoming such a rambler these days. Adam! You scared us! Wwwhy are you even hhhere? I stuttered, because I was so startled by his entrance. Well, Gramma wanted me to find you guys because shes worried you were lost, then I found this path and got stuck in that bush. But this place is too cool! You guys wont mind if I stay, do you? Adam begged. Ill help fix your tent. I gave a small grunt but Chad quickly chimed in, Oh, of course Adamyou can definitely stay. Now lets get started putting up the tent. After hanging out a bit, Chad and I were throwing rocks into the stream while Adam was sleeping laying in the tent now that it was set up. Just then, Chad and I heard a snarling noise coming from the bushes in front of us. I grabbed Chads arm as the bushes started moving again. Chadddd, what is that again?! My legs were starting to shake and I couldnt help but start screaming. Oh, its nothing. Chill out cousin. Adam crawled out of the tent in a bad mood. I dont think he cared for my screaming because his awakening followed with a scolding. Heather, be quiet! I was trying to sleep and now your screaming about some nonsense and Just then, the noise got louder. Adam got quiet and kept staring at that bush with a spooked look on his face. He looked like a deer in headlights. I was too scared to turn around to see what he was staring at, but I knew I had to. So I turned my head slowly to see hooves now sticking out of that bush! Then, Adam let out a cry,AHHHH A MOOSE A MOOSE! RUNNNN! Without looking back at the moose, Chad took off holding my hand. Adam followed behind for a while till we both heard a ker-plunk and a thud. Then followed was HELP HELP! Im STUCK! Chad and I turned around to see Adam all tangled up in the tent. Adam had run face first into the tent and was somehow now all coiled up in the ropes of the tent. What a bozo, I thought to myself. Adam was still yelling for help when I noticed a little old deer standing in the background. Adams so-called moose only turned out to be a dinky little deer. Once Chad realized this, he couldnt help but just point and laugh at Adam. Please help me! I cant get down! Adam whined. Alright, alright, hold on. Quit your yelping. Ill get you out of this mess, Chad answered as he pulled out his pocketknife and cut Adam loose out of the tangled ropes and fabric. The sun was about to set and the three of us knew we had to dart back to the house. So much for camping out on Moose Mountain, I thought to myself in disappointment. We made it back to the house panting, when the screen door swung open, and there was Gramma standing in the doorway, just waiting to punish us. Theres no way of sweet-talking our way out of this one this time, I thought as the three of us entered the house. Chad and I glanced at each other. He gave me this sleazy look and whispered, Now the fun really begins.
