EFFICACY TAPIOCA IN WOUND RECUPERATION OF EXPERIMENTAL MOUSE

(Rattus Norvegicus Strin Wistar)

XV + 53 Pages + 6 Tables + 3 Appendixs

Research Background : Tapioca is one of example of polysaccharide that is part of

carbohydrate. Tapioca is also very close with the society. The price is affordable and it
is also easy to get. Tapioca is proven to be very effective in healing blister in baby’s
groin. Unfortunately there is no research that specially observes the wound treated with
tapioca, whether it is causality studies or other types of studies.
Research Objective : To know the existence of effect from tapioca as dressing that
was given topically to the wound recuperation of experimental mouse, in the form of
wound wide or from the wound characteristic point of view.
Research Method : The type of the research is experimental research by clinical test.
The research was performed in STIK Muhammadiyah Pontianak laboratory. The
research samples are 4 experimental mice Wistar weight 150 grams – 200 grams. Two
mice as group control and 2 mice as treatment group. Each of mice has 2 wound on its
back. The wound score uses observation sheets and the measurement of the wound
wide was performed from 0 day until 14th days. The data was analyzed by using
Independent Sample T Test by the significance of (α)=0.05
Research Result : From the research performed the final wound wide (mean ± SD) in
tapioca treatment group is 0.1±0.0 and control group is 0.0±0.0, but there is no
significant difference with p=0.26. The assessment result towards wound characteristic
shows P value=0.02 on the 2nd day towards the exudates P Value= 0.03 on the 4th
towards the exudates P value=0.03 observation towards wound dryness, P value-0.04
towards the skin condition surround the wound.
Conclusion : There is no effect of tapioca towards the wound recuperation and there is
significance difference between the utilization of tapioca with the control (standard
treatment) towards exudates, skin dryness and the skin condition surround the wound
but there is no significance different in the utilization of tapioca and control towards
wound wice.
