CONDITIONALS

Attention
If the conditional comes first , you need a comma.
You dont need a comma if the conditional doesnt come first.

If the telephone rings , it makes a noise!


Water evaporates if you boil it.
We use the ZERO Conditional for general truths (things that happen all the time) and for instructions

Zero Conditional form: If clause PRESENT SIMPLE + PRESENT SIMPLE

Conditional Type 1
If Bart studies harder, he will pass .
Well go out if it doesnt rain.
We use Conditional 1 to refer to the future . It is used when there is a possibility that the if-event will
happen. Its a PROBABLE/POSSIBLE condition.

TYPE 1 form: If clause PRESENT SIMPLE + FUTURE (WILL) (GOING TO for plans)

Conditional Type 2
We use Conditional 2 to refer to the present or future .
1. hypothetical (imaginary, unreal)
If I worked in that factory, I' d soon change things, (but I don't work in that factory)
If I spoke French, my job would be a lot easier, (but I don't speak French)
2. unlikely (improbable)
If she left her husband, she would/might be happier, (but I don't think she's going to leave her
husband)

Type 2 form: If clause - past simple + would/could/might + infinitive
