In recognition for her outstanding achievement and contribution to the academe and medical profession, unselfishly imparting her expertise in the field of Pulmonary Medicine to students and fellow physicians alike, actively engaging in various activities of the College as lecturer and teacher.

Dr. Aileen Guzman-Banzon is currently an associate professor in the Department of Medicine of the MCU-FDTMF College of Medicine. She has been active in the academe for more than a decade, exhibiting her generosity of spirit as a tireless teacher and educator. As a dedicated teacher and well loved professor, she became the training officer of the Department of Medicine of MCU-FDTMF Hospital in 2002-2007. Then, as now, she takes medical students and residentsin-training on an intellectual journey through her clinical teachings. At present, she is the training officer of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine of Philippine Heart Center. Adhering to the belief that teaching is a rewarding profession she continues to inspire her younger colleagues. She possesses a unique consummate style of mentorship that motivates trainees to strive for excellence. She also proactively joins in the researches of the pulmonary division. She authored and co-authored several papers in COPD, critical care and sleep medicine most of which were published in the PCCP journal and presented in international scientific meetings. As Dr. Banzon continues to grow in the field of pulmonary medicine, she has proven herself to be an able mentor, researcher and clinician. She is the current secretary of the PCCP Specialty Board. As an active member of the Critical Care, Pulmonary Vascular Disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Council, she co-authored the PCCP Guidelines on Withholding and Withdrawal of Ventilatory Support published in 2003 and the recently published Philippine Practice Guidelines on Leptospirosis. She also spearheads the ongoing obstructive sleep apnea registry of the council. Her avid interest in COPD also made her one of the contributors of the first PCCP Consensus Report on COPD. Her outstanding performance as an academician has not gone unappreciated. The Philippine Heart Center Medical Alumni Society granted her the Distinguished Teacher Award last 2010. In spite of these formidable gifts and accolades, she is a humble and approachable person who loves to share her extensive knowledge and expertise to her students and trainees. Her unswerving commitment to academic excellence, professionalism and passion for teaching make Dr. Banzon deserving to be the recipient of the Outstanding Academician of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians.
