Supervision Exercised: Scholarship Assistant Salary Schedule/Range: P4 ($20.27/hr. - $26.26/hr. Depending on Experience) Status: Exempt General Statement of Duties: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, Isleta Education, the Post-Secondary Program Coordinator provides staff assistance in the planning, development, and implementation of the Tribes postsecondary scholarship program, with primary concentration in the areas of P.L. 93-638 contracts, Isleta Pueblo scholarship assistance, monitoring and evaluation of these programs. Provides technical assistance or training to the POI Departmental program coordinators, community, students & parents. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Assists the Executive Director in the review of student information for the awarding, distribution or denial of scholarship funds. Provides information and assistance to students and parents regarding college/university admission requirements, academic courses and degree planning. Maintains scholarship student files throughout the year and updates information on a biannual basis. Drafts documents and correspondence to students and institutions of higher education. Assists parents and students with completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Acts as student advocate and liaison with colleges and universities and responds to inquiries to resolve problems related to student issues. Keeps abreast of student assistance opportunities and disseminates information to qualified students. Reviews and recommends policy, procedures and guidelines for the implementation of the postsecondary scholarship programs. Introduces and promotes the use of the postsecondary education guidelines though technical assistance and training.

Develops and implements activities to increase high school and postsecondary enrollment though career fairs, college nights, open house, and related higher education events; documents and monitors participation of students and parents. 11. Visits area high schools to provide postsecondary and scholarship information to Isleta students. 12. Hosts a postsecondary and scholarship information night biannually for Isleta students and parents. 13. Acknowledges Isleta students graduation efforts and recognizes accomplishments though receptions, awards, newspaper articles, etc. 14. Develops and implements internship program and procedures, as well as, identifies and places interns within the community and works with Human Resources/Tribal Administration with the goal of retaining interns as regular employees. 15. Represents the Pueblo of Isleta tribe and Department of Education at state postsecondary education meetings. 16. Maintains close contact with appropriate Federal, national, state, local and Indian educational organizations for information, coordination and management purposes relative to postsecondary education. 17. Develops Bureau of Indian Education higher education grant application and reports on an annual basis. 18. Maintains a scholarship student database to provide an annual report to Tribal Council on the status of the program. 19. Follows policy for the postsecondary education programs to ensure students are afforded their rights in a fair and equitable manner. 20. Provides supervision and administrative oversight of the daily activities conducted by the scholarship program staff. 21. Performs other duties as assigned. Education: BS in counseling, education, or related field required; MA degree preferred. Three or more years of experience as a postsecondary career/college counselor preferred. Ability to communicate with individuals and groups both within State, local, Federal and tribal educational entities associated or affiliated with tribal groups, representatives of professional organizations or public action groups. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to review legal and professional publications pertinent to postsecondary education to create and/or modify manuals, regulations, standards, procedures of instructions, and to provide authoritative answers to questions and solutions to problems. Ability to use tact and negotiating skill to justify controversial recommendations for program improvement in the face of critical and significant situations. Knowledge of Pueblo of Isleta and federal, donor and/or institutional rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures for awarding of financial aid. Knowledge of schedules, rules, regulations and protocols at designated colleges/universities. Knowledge of the principles and practices of educational counseling. Skilled in effectively counseling students regarding financial aid applications and awards.

11. Ability to work under stress or pressure in order to meet deadlines. 12. Ability to use effective supervisory, administrative management principles and practices. 13. Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of administrative and student information. 14. Ability to pass a drug test and a thorough background check. 15. Valid New Mexico Drivers license with the ability to meet POI liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility in order to drive tribal or personal vehicles in the performance of job duties. 16. Ability to travel in and out of state.

Physical Demands /Work Environment: The work is primarily sedentary in an office setting with adequate heat, light and ventilation. Some walking, stooping, bending and lifting of light items may be required, and reasonable travel will be necessary to conduct program objectives. May be exposed to emotional clientele.
