PROJECT GUIDELINES a. Introduction Students who are registered course CHE304/349 for semester June October 2012 are required to submit a report (10% assessment) of project on the industrial reactors that have been applied in industries or chemical processing. b. Objective The objectives of this case study are: i. To expose the students on the real condition of industrial reactors. ii. To encourage the students to understand the usage of reactors in the real industrial process. c. Format Font : Arial, Font size: 11 (1.5 spacing) Page setup : Top: 1, Bottom: 1, Left: 1.1 and Right: 1.1 Paper size : A4 Pages : 10 15 pages Submission Date : 14th September 2012 (Friday) before 4.00 pm d. Content 1. The following are processes are commonly applied in industrial application: i. Hydrogenation of Organic Compounds : Ethylbenzene to Styrene Production

ii. Hydrogenation of Organic Compounds : Benzene to Cyclohexane iii. Petroleum Refining and Processing : Metyl-t-Butyl Ether (MTBE) Production iv. Catalytic Oxidation of Inorganic Compounds : Hydrogen Cynide Production (Ammoxidation of Methane) v. Catalytic Oxidation of Inorganic Compounds : Methanol to Formaldehyde Production vi. Hydrogen production and synthesis gas reaction : Ammonia Synthesis vii. Hydrogen production and synthesis gas reaction : Methanol Synthesis viii. Hydrogen production and synthesis gas reaction : Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis ix. Polymerization catalyst : Polyethylene Production x. Polymerization catalyst : Polypropylene Production 2. Report must have the following items: Front page Acknowledgement Table of content Abstract Abstract should be in one short paragraphs in a single page (150 300 words).
