Food gardens in participating childrens homes and at participating schools, improvement in all academic grades, improvement in teachers effectiveness, sustainable garden network created and maintained across teachers and communities, environmental rejuvenation at core locations, community building. Each school could serve as the hub location for a repeat run with 4 schools per core school. Possible expansions will be included in the interim and final reports. Entire community served by the participating schools, across several categories. Focus on women, especially elderly women, and providing sustainable skills training to the unemployed. 3 contact teachers per school, 5 principals in total, the ward manager and the district manager. By using the children as a knowledge distribution network we pass the learning through their families and social circles, with each new person creating further vectors for knowledge dissemination. This will be centredaround the creation of a community garden network based around each of the 5 schools. 5 locations in a 25km radius around the chosen central location. Specific locations to be decided according to DoE, principals and funder. Arrangements will be made with the local schools region district manager. Schools can be identified and enlisted at very short notice. This contact at the Department of Education to provide an entry point into the local schools. If the Funder wishes to leave the choice up to FTS, we shall use our contacts within the Department of Education to identify particularly needy schools. FTS is introduced to the school, principal, and teachers by the ward manager, who ensures schools which most need and want the project get it. With this creating a cluster of schools and network will be more manageable. All reference documents can be found in the project data collection, and are linked individually within the document. School materials can be found in the garden teaching collection.

Supporting documents:
The project focuses on the dual issues of food security and education, both being enormous obstacles in South Africa, and indeed the entire continent. By integrating the skill set and activity of creating food producing gardens in the school and community into the schools curricula, the project is able to accomplish this goal. Please see The Art of Teaching Thinking for initial analysis, and the various reports in the project data collection for detail of ongoing assessment. Individual location analysis is done for each project and proposal, with an eye to avoiding errors caused by broad assumption about individual project locations.
