Vigorously fueled by such high-temperature industries as steel, cement, glass, and nonferrous metal in recent years, the output of refractory materials in China climbed to 28.08 million tons in 2010 from 14.77 million tons in 2003, with the CAGR of 9.6%; hereinto, the energy-saving and eco-friendly unshaped refractory contributed more than 1/3. Meanwhile, the export volume of refractory products increased substantially from 827 kilotons in 2003 to 1792.8 kilotons in 2010, with the CAGR of 11.7%. Steel industry, the largest consumption field of refractory materials, occupies over 65%. The demand of steel dedicated refractory is directly related to steel output. The per ton steel usually consumes less than 10kg refractory materials in foreign countries, while that in China turns out to be 20~25kg. The Development Policy of Refractory Industry shoots at the refractory consumption per ton steel less than 20kg in 2010 and shy of 15kg in 2020. The necessary refractory materials for cement industry, the second largest consumption field of refractory materials, mainly cover basic refractory materials (magnesitebrick, magnesite-chrome brick, magnesite-alumina brick, etc.), Al-Si refractory materials (high alumina brick, fireclay insulating brick, etc.), and heat insulation refractory materials. Wherein, magnesite-chrome brick is most commonly employed in cement kiln firing zone; nevertheless, chromium ion brings about serious pollution against high temperature, magnesite-chrome brick has therefore been gradually replaced by chrome-free refractory materials like dolomite brick and magnesia spinelbrick in recent years.

Influenced by the economic environment, a number of worldwide paper pulp projects planned to start construction in 2009 and 2010 have been postponed to 2011 and 2012, resulting in rising costs of global wood pulp, waste paper and other raw materials because of supply shortage, thus narrowing profit margins of papermaking enterprises. The average gross margin of Chinese papermaking enterprises (with annual sales of over RMB20 million) was 13% in 2011, down 0.5 percentage point compared with the previous year, and then continued to drop to 12% in the first quarter of 2012. As domestic and international pulp projects have been put into production one after another, it is anticipated that the raw material prices will see decline in the second half of 2012. In China, linerboard and corrugated paper are primarily applied to the packaging industry as two types of paper products with the largest consumption. In 2011, China's new papermaking capacity was 9.2 million tons, of which, linerboard contributed the most, up to 1.8 million tons; followed by corrugated paper with 1.71 million tons. In the same year, China's paper and paperboard production reached 99.3 million tons, of which, linerboard and corrugated paper respectively accounted for 20.0% and 19.9%; while in the consumption of 97.52 million tons, they shared 21.3% and 20.4% separately.

The Russian cement market follows the trend of the country's construction market, during both the review and forecast periods. The cement market recorded a significant reduction in production and demand when the global financial crisis hit the Russian economy from late 2008 onwards. Many impending construction projects were suspended, and the cement market was adversely affected. The cement industry in Russia grew at a CAGR of 6.70% during the review period. During the review period, the cement clinker category was the largest cement type and accounted for 34.5% of the total cement industry. The growth is primarily attributed to the government's spending on infrastructure and the growing residential and commercial construction market. Wet cement manufacturing is the dominant production process for cement in Russia. Most plants in Russia are dated and in need of modernization, and the wet process also involves substantial energy input. Most new companies setting up plants in Russia are therefore opting for dry process plants. The Russian cement market comprises more than 50 cement manufacturers. The largest companies in the industry include JSC Eurocement Group, Sibirsky Cement, Lafarge, Alpha-Cement (a subsidiary of Holcim), Novorosstcement and the Park Group.

US demand for high performance composites -- polymer materials containing advanced fiber reinforcements -- is forecast to grow 15 percent per year to $10.3 billion in 2016. Advances will represent a considerable improvement over the pedestrian growth of the 2006- 2011 period, during which time composite demand was hampered by a weak aerospace market and declines in military applications. Going forward, high performance composite demand will be aided by strong growth in the commercial airliner market, as well as emerging opportunities in applications such as wind turbines and pressure vessels. However, the high cost and labor-intensive production of advanced composites compared to competitive materials will prevent these materials from penetrating more highvolume and price-sensitive applications. High performance composites are high strength, high stiffness materials that feature lighter weight and better durability than aluminum and other metals. Historically, these composites have been confined to military uses and high-end sporting goods due to their much higher prices compared to conventional glassfiber composites and metals. However, better production processes, the development of lower-cost carbon fibers, and a greater focus on lighter-weight components have allowed advanced composites to attract more widespread attention.

US demand for bioplastics will expand strongly through 2016, when it is expected to reach 550 million pounds, valued at nearly $700 million. Although bioplastics have begun to achieve a considerable degree of commercial success, the industry remains in an early stage of development, representing only a small niche within the overall plastics industry. Going forward, technical innovations and increased production capacity will combine to enhance the properties of bioplastics, boost their availability, and lower their price, thus making them more competitive with conventional polymers. In addition, many bio-based polymers benefit from relative price stability when compared with their petroleum-based counterparts. Moreover, the desire to decrease dependence on foreign oil will further fuel the expansion of bio-based resins, as will efforts by US manufacturers to enhance sustainability and improve the corporate image they project to an increasingly eco-conscious consumer base. Non-biodegradable bioresins to gain market share Although biodegradable materials accounted for the vast majority of bioplastics volume in 2011, the emergence of non-biodegradable bioresins will dramatically alter the market landscape. By 2021, these materials will represent more than two-fifths of volume demand. Growth will be fueled by large-volume production of bio-based polyethylene, as well as the eventual commercialization of bio-based polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene, and polyvinyl chloride, as well as polyethylene furanoate. Since such resins are chemically identical to their conventional counterparts, market acceptance is forecast to occur at a rapid rate. PET is projected to offer significant growth potential over the longer term, particularly as large corporations -- especially those in the soft drink industry -- are investing heavily in the development of this material.

India is ranked as the second-largest producer of cement in the world, only behind China. The Indian cement industry increased in value at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.14% during the review period (2007-2011), and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10.64% over the forecast period (2012-2016). This growth is primarily attributed to the government's high level of infrastructure spending, and the country's increasing number of residential and commercial construction activities. The Indian government invested US$500 billion on infrastructure during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2007-2012) and revealed plans to invest a further US$1 trillion on infrastructure during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2012-2017). The large-scale investment on various infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, bridges and ports, will generate a huge demand for cement over the forecast period. Shorter deadlines for builders to complete projects, labor shortages, space constraints in large cities, the growing need for mechanization and the backlog of infrastructure projects are the main factors driving the increased use of ready-mixed concrete (RMC) in India. Large township projects in the suburbs of India's leading cities where IT zones are prominent are also generating more demand for RMC. Upcoming infrastructure projects, including energy, roads, ports and airport projects, across India will continue to drive the growth of RMC in India over the forecast period.

Research Report on China's Papermaking Industry, 2012

Price USD 2800 Hard Copy USD 2800 PDF by E-mail (Single user license) USD 4200 PDF by E-mail (Enterprisewide license) Published by China Research and Intelligence

In recent years, China becomes one of the countries with the quickest productivity increase in world's papermaking industry. Since 2006, the production of China's machine-made paper and paper boards maintains a steady increase momentum. In 2011, the production reached 110.34 million tons, with an increase of 13.24% YOY. There is a large gap between output and consumption of China's pulp annually. For paper and paper boards, the productivity continually expands while that of certain paper varieties will be at risk of over productivity. Packaging paper and culture paper are still the priority. China's chrome paper market suffers from double pressure from the export obstacle and over productivity. The market of news paper markedly declines; in recent two years, the productivity of case boards will largely expands, which will also have such secret worries in the long term. Although forestry-paper integration is enhanced and it is encouraged to be implemented in enterprises by the government, it still relies on the import of raw materials to a great extent because of the rapid growth of output. The output of most paper products is predicted to basically meet the demand of domestic markets, so the import volume of products is annually on the decrease. Moreover, the export volume of China's paper products also constantly rises in recent years. Productivity of China's paper and paper boards will further expands within the future several years. Meanwhile, with the government's forceful promotion of energy-saving and emission reduction, a batch of backward productivity will be replaced and new programs will be obviously characterized by the large scale. Various papermaking enterprises continue the expansion, high-end products of papermaking industry will be short and the supply of low-end products will distinctly exceeds demand.

North America is one of the major uranium producing regions in the world, accounting for around 17% of global uranium mine production during 2011. At the end of 2010, the region had reserves of 761,781 ton uranium (tU), representing about 12% of global reserves, but several exploration activities currently in progress look to nurture further growth in North America's uranium industry. The development of new mines and capacity expansions at existing mines in the US and Canada will underpin regional uranium mine production. The development of Cigar Lake, one of the world's largest undeveloped high-grade uranium deposits located in Saskatchewan, Canada, is expected to be operational by mid-2013 and have an annual production capacity of 6,924 tU. Similarly, the Midwest Millennium mine project in Northern Saskatchewan, the Kiggavik project in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, the Matoush exploration project in central Quebec, and the Nichols Uranium Project in the US are expected to boost production in the near future. In addition to this, the multi-year McArthur River extension project, which began in 2010, is encouraging a new lease of underground exploration around present mining operations in Canada. Expansion plans are also present for Rabbit Lake uranium mine, where new mineralization, known as the Powell zone, has been identified, with new drilling plans scheduled for 2012.

Uranium mining is set to soar in the future due to rising demand for nuclear power, with Asia's colossal reserves looking set to meet these needs, according to natural resources expert GBI Research. The new report* suggests that mounting demand for nuclear power generation will boost uranium prices, offering to make Asia-Pacific a tidy sum, but only if they can overcome environmental and professional hazards. According to the Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics and Sciences (ABARES), the spot price of uranium, which hung around the $62 per pound mark in 2011, will reach around $81 a pound by 2016 due to the massive surge in demand. The availability of huge reserves, coupled with rising prices, will drive the Asia-Pacific uranium mining industry. Asia-Pacific is the largest uranium-producing region in the world, boasting an estimated production of 34,041 tons of uranium (tU) during 2011, over half the global production. Kazakhstan contributed just under two-thirds of this, followed by Australia with 25.2%, Uzbekistan with 7.2%, China with 2.6% and India with a 1.1% share. Asia's uranium mining industry has been helped by the region's abundant reserves, which, according to the World Nuclear Association (WNA), stood at 3,599,421tU in 2010, accounting for about 57% of total global reserves. New planned projects and the expansion of existing uranium mines will drive up uranium mine production throughout Asia-Pacific, with Australia, India, Kazakhstan and China all being expected to increase regional uranium mine production in the outlook period.

Rare earths are also known as technology metal, because without the use of rare earths it would not be possible to make the latest digital technology products. Although rare earths are used in small quantities, their role is pivotal. Unlike other elements, the rare earths industry is dominated by China, which accounted for 95.3% of the total global production. However, the global market for rare earths is expected to be $18.3bn in 2012. It is expected that the global rare earths market value will decline during the forecast period due to falling prices of rare earths. The recent downward spiral in the rare earths prices will continue during the forecast period. Having said that, Visiongain understands that in case of any increase in the Chinese rare earths' export quota or delays in production from the planned rare earths projects, this will send the prices of rare earths upward, and so the market value. The report contains 304 tables, charts and graphs that add visual analysis in order to explain developing trends within the rare earths market. Visiongain provides forecasts for the period 2012-2022 in terms of value (US$) and tonnages for the global rare earths market, as well as for eight end-use sectors (catalysts, glass, polishing, metal alloys, magnets, phosphors, ceramics, others) of the rare earths market. In addition, 12 leading national markets are forecasted and analysed by Visiongain over the period 2012-2022. Electronic Polymers Global Markets to 2017 - North America and Western Europe Focus on Innovation While Asia-Pacific Benefits from Low Cost Manufacturing
Price USD 3500 PDF by E-mail (Single user license) USD 7000 PDF by E-mail (Site license) USD 10500 PDF by E-mail (Global license) Published by GBI Research

Developed Countries Rely on Innovation to Compete with Emerging Economies in Electronic Polymers Market. Developed countries are focusing on advancing their polymer application technology as countries such as China and India continue to out-produce their richer counterparts, according to a new report by market analysts GBI Research. The report* predicts that newer applications for polymers will drive growth in the developed regions of Europe and North America, even though the rate of growth will not be substantial at global level due to the smaller market size for these innovations. In contrast, the Asia-Pacific market is the largest for polymers for electrical and electronic applications, and this is expected to continue with impressive growth over the next few years. This area, with China in particular, has emerged as a manufacturing hub for petrochemical products due to relatively low production costs. This factor, combined with an improvement in living standards, led to the region accounting for 50.9% of the global electronic polymers demand in 2011. Overall, the global demand for polymers for electrical and electronic applications is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.9% to 23,293,511 tons in 2017, from a total of 15,601,841 tons in 2011. Manufacturers in developed countries are typically unable to compete in the Asia-Pacific region because of low labor costs. Accordingly, these countries are relying more and more on the development of more advanced polymer applications. The UK government, for example, has invested hundreds of millions of pounds in the development of organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and printing electronics, with major manufacturers working on similar technologies.

Greek mining production volumes of (coal, nickel, bauxite, perlite and bentonite) is expected to decline by 3.2% in 2012. Mining production volume shrank by -6.62% during the review period (2007-2011), although it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 2.52% over the forecast period (2012-2016). The current decline in production volumes is mainly due to the recession that has affected the country during the review period. The production of coal and bauxite declined during 2010-2011, and this decline is expected to continue in 2012. However, the production of nickel, perlite and bentonite registered a positive growth during the same period, and is projected to continue growing over the forecast period. Coal production volume fell during the review period, although it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 1.14% over the forecast period. Coal is primarily used for power generation in Greece. During the review period, the demand for power in Greece declined as the country's industrial activity slowed due to poor economic conditions.

Conductive Inks Markets 2012-2018

Price USD 3995 Web Access (Five User License) USD 4250 Web Access (Five User License) and Hard Copy Published by IDTechEx Ltd.

Conductive inks are a simple and unglamorous layer but they will constitute a hefty $2.86 billion market in 2012. This market is forecasted to rise to $3.36 billion in 2018, with $735 million captured by new silver and copper nanostructure inks. These values make conductive inks the most successful segment of all printed electronics, surpassing the likes of printable OLEDs, photovoltaics, displays, etc. This is because conductive inks find use in a great variety of end applications, including RFID, photovoltaics, sensors, vehicles, smart packages, flexible display and lighting and touch screens. This enormous diversity reflects the simple fact that all electronic devices require multiple layers of interconnects. This multiplicity of market requirements has resulted in the introduction of many types of inks, each offering their own set of characteristics and uniques. Innovation in the field of nanotechnology has largely enabled this high level of product differentiation. Indeed, the market today contains graphene, carbon nanotubes, and silver and copper nanostructure (nanoparticle and nanowire) inks, all of which have one or two dimensions in the nanoscale. Silver flake inks serve the largest and most mature markets. For example, the crystalline silicon solar cell industry alone consumes approximately 1,100 metric tonnes of silver flake inks. On the other hand, emerging inks are slowly penetrating the market by either displacing an existing product (e.g., indium tin oxide) and/or enabling new markets based on their attributes of higher conductivity, inkjet printability, flexibility, and/or enhanced surface smoothness.

Biocides are substances that kill or inhibit all life forms when introduced in sufficient concentration and/or duration. They are used to control harmful organisms and control bacterial and fungal growth. Different types of biocide such as halogen compounds, metallic compounds, organosulfurs, organic acids, phenolic, etc. are used for various applications in personal care, water treatment, wood preservation, food and beverage, paints and coatings, and others. Growth in water treatment market on account of increasing water consumption due to population growth, changing food habits, and climate change is a major driver for global biocide market. Biocides are also used as additives in polymers for preventing the growth of bacteria or fungi and also to prevent degradation of polymer's physical and sensorial properties, both within the material and at its surface. The incorporation of biocides in plastics and rubbers helps in reducing cost and effort required in cleaning especially, in demanding sectors such as food processing plants, hospitals, and home care. Biocides are becoming compliant to environment regulations as more and more companies are meeting the regulations. The newer breed of biocide, which have lesser environmental impact and better performance features are key drivers of the biocide market. Higher priced specialty biocides are providing stiff competition to the commodity biocides. Biocide market is also witnessing an increase in demand for environmentally friendly biocides in disinfectants and sanitizers in household, industrial, and institutional cleaners as compared to other biocide formulations. Other applications of biocides such as health care industry are growing due to increasing health consciousness thus leading to need for protection from infections.

World demand for nanomaterials will rise more than two-and-a-half times to $5.5 billion in 2016, driven by a combination of increased market penetration of existing materials, and ongoing development of new materials and applications. Nanotubes, along with other materials such as nanoclays and quantum dots, will grow at the fastest pace, with the energy storage and generation and construction markets undergoing the most rapid expansions. Regionally, the Americas and the Asia/Pacific region will continue to dominate demand, though the fastest growth will occur in Eastern Europe and the Africa/Mideast region. China, India to be fastest growing national markets The world market for nanomaterials continues to be quite dynamic, undergoing rapid expansion even during the recent global recession in 2009. Significant investments into the research and development of nanomaterials continue to highlight their unique properties and their high-value nature when compared to conventional materials. This high-value nature has concentrated nanomaterial demand in wealthier countries where the majority of research and development continues to occur, and where many companies continue to manufacture their most technologically advanced products due to concerns about intellectual property rights in developing countries. Through 2016, however, the fastest growth in nanomaterial demand will be in China and India as these countries gain a greater share of global research and development spending, and as large multinational corporations become increasingly comfortable allowing their most advanced products to be produced in these manufacturing powerhouses.

Production and Market of Chlorpyrifos in China

Price Published by Guangzhou CCM Information Science & Technology Co., Ltd. USD 7020 PDF by E-mail (Single User License) USD 7120 CD-ROM USD 7170 Hard Copy USD 17550 PDF by E-mail (Enterprise-wide License) China has become the largest production base of chlorpyrifos technical in the world in terms of capacity and output and has been playing a more and more important role in global chlorpyrifos industry. With years' development, China has made great progress in the production technology of chlorpyrifos. However, its technology level is still far behind that in developed countries, and the supply of chlorpyrifos from domestic manufacturers still focuses on technical supply, plus they still have lower profit level than oversea counterparts do. In the past few years, the capacity of domestic chlorpyrifos is in serious surplus due to the lower entrance threshold of chlorpyrifos industry and the blind capacity expansion of producers. Fortunately, with the release and implementation of Industrial Policy for Pesticide Industry, the most important national regulation that guides the development of China's pesticide industry, the production of chlorpyrifos is expected to become increasingly concentrated and competition inside chlorpyrifos industry will be more and more intense. Large scale producers such as Nanjing Redsun, Zhejiang Xinnong, etc. will become more and more competitive thanks to their advantages in production technology and sales channel. Meanwhile, small-scale producers will be washed out during the intense market competition due to their low level of production technology and substandard treatment technology of wastewater.

China organic silicon industry in 2011 showed poor performance overall, primarily influenced by the oversupply and product singularity of the upstream organic silicon monomer market. On the one hand, the built capacity of organic silicon in China reaches 1.8 million t/a, with apparent consumption of organic silicon monomer approximating 1.26 million tons in 2011, while currently, China's organic silicon monomer capacity under construction has also outnumbered 800,000 tons, thus the overcapacity problem will persist in the next few years. On the other hand, due to the single product structure, Chinese organic silicon monomers are mainly concentrated in the field of traditional methyl chlorosilane products, while phenyl chlorosilane and other new types of high-performance organic silicon monomers have less capacity, thereby imposing obvious restrictions on the development of downstream organic silicon deep-processing sectors such as silicone rubber, silicone oil, coupling agent, etc..

Dissolving pulp is a pulp that has a high cellulose content (>90%), with downstream demand mainly from viscose fibers. Global dissolving pulp capacity in 2011 was approximately 5.4 million tons, primarily concentrated in North America, South Africa, Brazil and other regions with rich forest resources. The worldwide leading manufacturers include Sappi, Birla, Sateri, Rayonier, Buckeye and Lenzing mainly concerning production of dissolving wood pulp, altogether accounting for about 60% of the world's total capacity of dissolving pulp in 2011. In the context of increased demand and skyrocketing price of dissolving pulp during 2010-2011, global major producers successively planned to raise production capacity, with growth expected to outnumber 2 million tons by 2016. However, considering strict environmental policies abroad as well as the higher density of China's textile industry, the new capacity layout begins to favor China to a large extent. In 2011, China's dissolving pulp capacity reached 896,000 tons, of which roughly 70% was newly added. Combined with the present 600,000 tons of capacity planned or under construction, China will achieve a total dissolving pulp capacity of around 1.5 million tons once put into operation, thus becoming one of the significant dissolving pulp origins worldwide. In China, dissolving pulp manufacturers are mainly large and medium-sized paper-making enterprises and chemical fiber enterprises; as for the former, there are mainly Yueyang Forest & Paper, Sun Paper and Fujian Qingshan Paper Industry, with dissolving pulp capacity ranking China's top three positions and altogether sharing 66.5% of China's total capacity in 2011, showing obvious scale advantages.
