GRAPHENE-BASED ELECTROCHEMICAL SENSORS FOR PARACETAMOL

Anuvind B CB.EN. P2BME11001 M. Tech Biomedical Engineering Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Project Guide Dr. Murali Rangarajan Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

Paracetamol is widely used as an antipyretic and analgesic drug. It is an effective and safe analgesic agent used for the relief of mild to moderate pain associated with headache, backache, arthritis and postoperative pain. It is also used for reduction of fevers of viral and bacterial origin. Paracetamol is being increasingly used for therapeutic purposes, its determination and quality control is of vital importance. Therefore, it is essential to be able to sense paracetamol in human serum or blood or plasma.

Among the many sensors, electrochemical sensors are known for their excellent selectivity, sensitivity, low detection limits, and linearity. This is because they apply and measure either voltage or current with electrical driving forces being subject to minimum variations compared to thermal or mechanical driving forces. Here it is proposed to develop metal-oxide-graphene nanocomposites as electrochemical sensing platforms for paracetamol. The synthesized nanocomposite will be characterized by SEM, TEM, FT-IR, and XRD. Interference from common constituents of blood such as uric acid, ascorbic acid, glucose etc will be studied. Sensor performance will be characterized for linearity, hysteresis, sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility.

DIGITAL STETHOSCOPE
ARATHY.R CB.EN.P2BME11002 GUIDED BY: Mr.BINOY.B.NAIR

ABSTRACT:

A stethoscope, whether acoustic or digital, is used mainly to listen heart and lung sounds in the body as an aid to diagnosis. Though the electrocardiograph was a significant breakthrough in the field of medicine, it only showed the chronological sequence of mechanical events occurring in the heart as a waveform representation. It did not take into consideration, the individual frequency components of the heart signal, an analysis of which would give an accurate diagnosis of the working of the heart. This led to the development of the phonocardiograph (PCG). This project aims to develop a low cost portable digital stethoscope and the primary function of this system is to work exactly like a normal stethoscope, but having an added advantage of not being limited by the length of the tubing. At the same time many people can listen to the stethoscope output which is normally impossible with an ordinary stethoscope. It also provides data to visually chart results by connecting to an off-instrument display such as a computer monitor so that further processing and diagnosis of abnormal phonocardiogram will be easy. This advanced functionality increases the physicians diagnostic capability.

Bluetooth Enabled Multi Parameter Patient Monitoring System

Arun Dev N (CB.EN.P2BME11003) M.Tech Biomedical Engineering Amrita Vishwa vidyapeetham

Project Guide Guided by : Dr.N Madhu Mohan Department of Electronics and Communication Amrita Vishwa vidyapeetham Abstract: A prototype for monitoring biological signal from patients. The device can acquire ECG, temperature and saturation level of oxygen in blood. Medical systems recently reported in the literature include physiological signal monitoring system integrating with Bluetooth technology. Here the device will transmit the acquired signal to a computer via Bluetooth. Primary target of the project is to provide mobility and comfort to the patient, so it is necessary to use wireless communication when continuous data transmission is required. Bluetooth technology was chosen because it can be easily connected to computer-based systems and it also provide noise and interference rejection. Bluetooth devices in modern mobile phones and other mobile computer platforms (Laptop), makes this technology more attractive in sense of scalability and compatibility for present and future applications. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is important for detecting the heart activities of patients. Our body cells need oxygen to perform aerobic respiration, so the saturation level of oxygen is to be measured. Pulse oximeter is used for measuring the oxygen level. Thermometer is used for measuring the temperature. The three devices will acquire the signals and is given to a microcontroller which is having a built in Analog to Digital converter .We can see all these signals in a Computer ,for that a Bluetooth module is used for transferring signal.

REAL TIME ECG ARRHYTHMIA DETECTION

Aryalekshmi.R CB.EN.P2BME11004

ABSTRACT
The aim of this project is to provide an efficient analysis of cardiac activity. Any cardiac rhythm that deviates from the normal rhythm is said to be an arrhythmia. Electrocardiograph is the noninvasive instrument which gives the cardiac electrical activity as an electrocardiogram. The proposed system enables the interpretation of different types of arrhythmias from the acquired real time ECG signal from the patient. Some of which include tachycardia, premature ventricular contraction, ventricular fibrillation. This system can be used in hospitals for the interpretation of an arrhythmia. Else it can also be used at home for the continuous monitoring of the cardiac activity of a patient and reporting of the life threatening arrhythmias to the cardiologist, for the timely delivery of proper medication.

SYSTEM FOR ASSISTED MOBILITY USING EYE MOVEMENTS BASED ON ELECTRO OCULOGRAPHY

DEEPA UNNIKRISHNAN CB.EN.P2BME11005 Guided by Dr.N.Madhu Mohan

ABSTRACT

The project aims at an eye-controlled method based on electrooculography(EOG) to develop system for assisted mobility. Many people with severe disabilities usually retain their control capacity over the oculomotor system. So eye movements could be used to develop new human-machine communication systems. EOG is a method for sensing eye movement and is based on recording the standard corneal-retinal potential arising from hyper polarizations and depolarization existing between cornea and retina. The standing potential in the eye can thus be estimated by measuring the voltage induced across a system of electrodes placed around the eyes. The EOG pattern varies in amplitude and polarity for vertical and horizontal eye movements and blinks. These variations are detected and are used to control the direction of a wheelchair. Many applications can be developed using EOG because this technique provides the users with a degree of independence in the environment. Therefore any improvement in the convenience of this technique could be of great potential utility and help in the future.

AN INEXPENSIVE FIELD-PORTABLE PROGRAMMABLE POTENTIOSTAT

GOWRIPRABHA.V CB.EN.P2BME11006 Guided by: Ms.Anusha Co-Guided by: Mr.Binoy.B.Nair

ABSTRACT: In the field of electrochemistry it is required to estimate and monitor the molecular reactions in order to control its reactions. Such electro-analytical analysis requiring potentiostatic control includes the analysis of corrosion, in-vivo detection of the electrochemical reactions. A potentiostat is an electronic instrument used in chemical and biological tests that control the voltage between two electrodes at a constant value. Commercially available potentiostats tend to be larger in size and expensive. These instruments are typically impractical for use in laboratories. So, this project aims to develop a simple, inexpensive, field portable potentiostat for laboratory usage. This potentiostat can be interfaced with the PC to display and to analyze the acquired data. By monitoring the current and plotting it against the potential, electrochemical activity of chemical compounds can be estimated.
