Its not very long, so ple ase read it and save yourself some trouble. Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. If you have autoplay turned off and the automenu program didnt start, then you ca n start it by clicking on autorun.exe. That will give you the menuing system for installing the software, techsupport numbers, etc. The automenu system wont work on Windows 3.1. You can just run the SETUP.EXE file on the CD to install the Lo gos Library System and the Theological Journals 2. When the automenu starts, click the Install Application link. 3. When prompted, click OK to select the default directories C:\LOGOS20 and C:\LRSYSTEM, (or replace them with the desired drive and directory settings and click OK). We strongly recommend using the defaults. If your Logos system is no t in the default directory and you want to change that, see the upgrade installat ions section below. 4. You will then be prompted to specify the Program Group name where you wa nt application icons to be installed. The default location is Galaxie Software, bu t you may wish to click the down arrow and choose a different group like Logos Ap plications if you already have Logos software installed or type a new name for yo ur own custom group. Click OK. 5. You will be prompted to accept the location of your CD-ROM drive or chan ge the drive letter to the actual location of your CD-ROM drive. If the drive le tter displayed is correct, click OK. If the drive letter displayed is NOT correc t, type in the correct drive letter, then click OK. 6. When you see the Installation Complete! dialog, click OK and you will be r eady to run your Logos Library System product. Upgrade Installations

The Logos Setup program will simply check to see If youve ever called Logos or another vendor to unlock a title, we recommend that you backup your c:\lrsystem\lrsuser.dat file to a safe place. This file control s what is unlocked on your system. If you havent called to unlock anything, you c an always just reinstall all your Logos applications to re-unlock the books in y our library. If you previously installed Logos to a different directory than c:\Logos20, and you want to install to the default location, you need to do two things: Delete the c:\windows\logos20.ini file Remove the [LRSystems] section from your c:\windows\win.ini file. Reinstall and accept the defaults Copying Books to Your Hard Drive With the Librarian Insert the CD with the books you want to copy into the CD Drive. Start Logos and then open the Tools, Librarian menu Select the book(s) you want to copy and click copy Select the destination on your hard drive. NOTE: do not put them in the c:\logos 20 directory. The Manual Method On occasion the librarian wont copy a book to the hard drive. In that case, you c an always use your windows explorer and copy the file from the CD:\BOOKS directo ry to your C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS directory. Be sure not to copy the LRSPCH.DAT file when you do so. (see below) Typical Problems I cant see my books and I know they are there! This is almost always because you copied the books from the CD to your h ard drive with the explorer, and in the process, the LRSPCH.DAT file was copied from one of your Logos CDs to your hard drive. That file tells Logos which books are in that directory and if you copied it from a CD, then its listing the files on the CD and hiding the files in the current directory. To correct the problem: Look in c:\lrsystem, c:\logos20, c:\logos20\book s, and anywhere else you have Logos books and delete the lrspch.dat file anywher e you find it. If the lrspch.dat file is not the problem, them more than likely, you co pied your books to the c:\logos20 folder. Although this is the default location for the librarian to copy books to, it doesnt work. You need to copy the books to the c:\logos20\books folder. Registering Your Software If you purchased your Galaxie Software product directly from Galaxie Sof tware, there is no need to register. You are already in the database. However, i f you purchased your CD from someone else, please take the time to visit our web site and fill out the registration form so we can notify you of updates to the s oftware. You can click on the Visit Website link on the automenu or go to http://ww w.galaxie.com/ Tips on Using Logos Using the Bible Reference Browser One of the problems with searching biblical reference materials with the average search engine is that people dont abbreviate bible references the same. For example: 1 Peter 3:6 might be written the following ways: First Peter 3:6 1 Peter 3:6 I Peter 3:6 1 Pet 3:6 I Pet 3:6 And dont forget when the single verse you are studying is mentioned in re ference like 1 Pet 3:1-10. There can be countless combinations of verse ranges t hat would include our verse. With your typical full-text boolean logic type search engine (Folio Views, Web search engines, etc.) you would have to enter each one of the above 5 possi

ble formats in a very long or search statement or do separate searches for each, a nd still you wouldnt find the places where the verse was included in a range of v erses. Its so much trouble that people rarely bother. Heres one of the places where the Logos Library System shines. Since we g o to the trouble of tagging all the verses with a standard format (meaning we le ave the actual text alone, but put hidden codes in the file), Logos can list eve ry place on the CD where that verse is mentioned including places where the indi vidual verse is in a range of verses. You do this by using the Bible Reference Browser. Hit the Ctrl + R key o r click on the icon with the green R on it. (If you have the power user toolbar tu rned on.) You get a window that looks like the box on the left side of the scree n capture below. Following our example above, I type in 1 pet 3:6 and since I had Greek Gra mmar Beyond the Basics open when I did that, immediately the box below the verse list fills up with all the places in Dan Wallaces Greek Grammar where that verse is mentioned either specifically or in a range of verses. All I have to do is d ouble click on the list at the bottom left and a window will pop up with that se ction of the appropriate book. Then I just scroll down a bit and find the verse. It looks something like this: If I click on the right mouse button I get a little popup menu with the option to search just the active book, all open books, or all the books in my li brary. The next picture shows the result of my search after I chose to search a ll the books in my library. Since the Theological Journal Library CD is on my sy stem, you can see that it lists all the places in the various journals where 1 P eter 3:6 is discussed. Notice also in the bottom right pane of the picture below that 1 Peter 3:1-7 shows up when I searched for 1 Pet 3:6. I know of no other program that allows you to do such a thorough search of your electronic library for all the material pertaining to the passage you ar e studying. Using the Word Browser In addition to searching for a word through the regular search dialog bo x, you might want to use the Word Browser. It works much the same way as the Bib le Reference Browser explained above. To open the word browser press Ctrl + W an d it will open (or click on the green W on the toolbar). Then type in your English word, or click the button with the alpha/aleph in the bottom right corner of the following picture and change to Greek, Hebrew , Strongs Number, etc. I chose Greek in my example and typed in agapaw. I dont need to worry about breathing marks and accents. Logos understands. My hit list shows all the place s on the CD where agapaw occurs. If I click on the first hit under Bibliotheca Sac ra, Logos takes me to that article/section and I find agapaw mentioned at the bott om of the screen (we highlighted the word in black). I can click on each of the hits in the lower left-hand window and Logos will open each article to that section so I can see if the information contained in that article is useful to my study. There are many other nice features of the Logos Library System, but thos e are two of my favorites. Technical Support Support for Galaxie Software Logos CDs is not provided by Logos Research Systems. It is provided by Galaxie Software, so dont call Logos! Read the Manual There is a very extensive Help file and at the bottom of your Library Br owser book list is the same info in Logos format. Other Products BibleScript Although you do get Greek and Hebrew fonts included with your Galaxie So ftware CDs, you might be interested in BibleScript if you spend much time typing in Hebrew. BibleScript is a set of 18 Greek, Hebrew and transliteration fonts plus a utility for typing from right-to-left in Word for Windows. Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics, by Daniel B. Wallace, is the best, most up-to-date, and most popular Greek Grammar available. The principles of grammar are thoroughly explained and easy to understand. One of the greatest strengths of this grammar are the in-depth discussions of the grammatical principles to sp ecific passages throughout the New Testament. As a result, perhaps the most popu lar feature of the book has been the scripture index which lists all the places in the grammar where a specific passage is discussed or is given as an example o f a particular grammatical principle. It s one of the first places you will want to look when studying a passage because you will want to see if the grammar aff ects your translation and interpretation. Now that the Grammar is in Logos, you can not only read or search the bo ok, you can type the verse you are studying in the Bible Reference Browser and h ave an instant list of the sections with grammatical discussion appropriate to y our verse, just click on the link and go directly to that section. Theological Journal Library CD Theological Journals are a tremendous resource for Biblical studies. But copies of Theological Journals are difficult to find, impossible to buy, and ev en if you are fortunate enough to have a library of journals in print form, they take up lots of shelf space. Plus, finding the topic or Bible passage you are i nterested in is difficult, to say the least. The Theological Journal Library CD combines several of the best conserva tive, scholarly, evangelical journals and classic works on church history in one easy to use CD that allows you to rapidly search through several titles for the words, phrases, topics, authors, passages, etc. which you are interested in. It is an invaluable tool for everyone who studies, teaches or preaches Scripture. Many users of the TJLCD have said it is the best resource in their entir e library.
