CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Todays world need is a corporate world and it requires a lot of management activities to achieve success, for this purpose in this competing corporate world of multinationals and industries , industrial revolution has brought with it group production and group consumption activities and also it has brought in a lot of corporations competing for preferences and success in the business world, it may be a manufacturing industry or any other type of industry experience and specialization, have become a must to compete with others become very much essential for all the companies. Lecturers teach the students; this learning will make an individual knowledgeable in theory of the various functions of a company. But a person comes out from class room and visits various industries, in this situation he can learn more from them. In such a situation real experience in the practical functioning and operations of a company can be of very much use to the students of management studies

Organization is a social unit which is deliberately constructed and reconstructed to seek specific goals .An organization comes into existence when there are a number of persons in communication and relationship to each other and are willing to contribute towards a common endeavor. The evolution of organization dates back to the early stages of human civilization when two or more persons began to cooperate and combine together for fulfilling their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and protection of life .Thus, an organization is born when people combine their efforts for some common purpose. It is a universal truth that an individual is unable to fulfill his needs and desire alone because he lacks strength, ability and resources. So he seeks the cooperation of other people who share goals with him From a process-related perspective, an organization is viewed as an entity is being (re)organized, and the focus is on the organization as a set of tasks or actions. From a functional perspective, the focus is on how entities like businesses or state authorities are used. From an institutional perspective, an organization is viewed as a purposeful structure within a social context.

Organisation as a System
It helps to think of organizations as systems. Simply put, a system is an organized collection of parts that are highly integrated in order to accomplish an overall goal. The system has various inputs which are processed to produce certain outputs that together, accomplish the overall goal desired by the organization. There is ongoing feedback among these various parts to ensure they remain aligned to accomplish the overall goal of the organization. There are several classes of systems, ranging from very simple frameworks all the way to social systems, which are the most complex. Organizations are, of course, social systems. Systems have inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes. To explain, inputs to the system include resources such as raw materials, money, technologies and people. These inputs go through a process where they're aligned, moved along and carefully coordinated, ultimately to achieve the goals set for the system. Outputs are tangible results produced by processes in the system, such as products or services for consumers. Another kind of result is outcomes, or benefits for consumers, e.g., jobs for workers, enhanced quality of life for customers, etc. Systems can be the entire organization, or its departments, groups, processes, etc.

Organisational structure
The framework, typically hierarchical, within which an organization arranges its lines of authority and communications, and allocates rights and duties. Organizational structure determines the manner and extent to which roles, power, and responsibilities are delegated, controlled, and coordinated, and how information flows between levels of management. Organizational studies, sometimes known as organizational science, encompass the systematic study and careful application of knowledge about how people act within organizations. The lure of flavored Indian spices needed for seasoning meat launched Western ships across the seas to this countrys western shores. History relates how Indian spices, particularly black pepper, came to be regularly exported to Europe after Vasco da Gama explored the Cape of Good Hope route. The spice route led to the fabulous riches of India under Muslim rule. Goa was the starting point. The tradition has continued as India is producing 86% of global spices. 5.1 HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT

The resource that resides in the knowledge, skills, and motivation of people. Human resource is the least mobile of the four factors of production, and (under right conditions) it improves with age and experience, which no other resource can do.
