in/wireless Welcome to IIT Bombay's Wireless Network ********************************************** To start accessing the Wireless Network, simply start your machine. Our Wireless Access Points will provide you an IP Address(via DHCP) to your machine. Visitors ----------For surfing on the Internet configure your browser with a proxy server "openworld.iitb.ac.in" and port number "3128". Institute Faculty/Staff/Student -------------------------------------For surfing on the Internet configure your browser as usual (like department proxy server, netmon etc.) Following are the areas in the campus which are Wi-Fi enabled. * Vanvihar (New Guest House): All rooms including ground floor lobby. * Jalvihar (Old Guest House): Seminar Hall, Conference Hall and 2nd floor rooms. * Institute Auditorium (IRCC). * Lecture Theatre (P C Saxena Auditorium). * Director Office, Board Room, Conference Hall. * All The Dean's Office in Main Building. * Deputy Director Office. * Central Library Reader Area. To verify whether your computer is using DHCP, please go through the following steps. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Machine Configuration: Case 1: Machines using Windows Operating System * Start > Setting > Network Connections. * Wireless Network Connection > Properties which will open new window (Wireless Network Connection Properties) > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties > "Obtain an IP address automatically". * Our routers will then provide an IP address automatically. Case 2: Machines using Linux System * Open Terminal > Change to root user mode > type netconfig > Select yes on the prompt > Select the field Use dynamic IP address.

Browser Configuration: Case 1: Internet Explorer (For Windows) * Start your browser > Go to Tools > Internet Option > Select Connections > Select LAN Settings > Select the option Use a proxy server for your LAN, and in the address field type "openworld.iitb.ac.in" and port number "3128" > Save the settings. Case 2: Mozilla Firefox (For Linux) * Start your browser > Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Connection Setting > Manual Proxy Configuration > click on Use the proxy for all protocol check box and insert the "openworld.iitb.ac.in" and port number "3128" Save the settings.
