Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA 2013

About Virtual BAJA The Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA is a prequalifier to participation in the BAJA SAEINDIA event. The objectives of the Virtual BAJA Event are as follows: 1. To acquaint the teams completely with the objectives of the BAJA SAEINDIA event. 2. The teams are required to acquaint themselves with the technical guidelines and limits for the design of BAJA vehicle. 3. To present 2D / 3D views of the proposed design the BAJA Vehicle. readyfor manufacture. 4. The teams would be judged on the following basis: a. Knowledge of rulebook b. Design Methodology for Roll Cage c. Materials selected & sizes / thicknesses of tubes etc. d. Compliance with rulebook / Overall proposal in 3D e. Proposed Engineering / Finite Element Analysis loads and constraints, Factor of Safety & deformations. f. Human Ergonomics g. Roll Cage weight, number of weld joints / weld length etc. h. Suspension Design Methodology & considerations for Springs, Damper, Links / arms and target design specifications. i. Steering - Design Methodology & considerations for steering selection ( turning radius, steering effort etc.) target specifications for wheel geometry (caster, camber, toe in, toe out) etc. j. Brakes - Design Methodology & considerations for brakes proposed (Disc / drum brakes, (braking effort, braking circuit, brake mounting, etc.), target specifications (braking effort, pedal force) etc. k. Power train (Engine to wheel including tyres) & mounting considerations, Vehicle performance specifications e.g. Vehicle speed, Acceleration etc. l. Safety m. Overall Test specifications & Performance Targets n. DFMEA & Design validation plan for above Specifications & Targets 5. Project Plan 6. Team - Organisation chart 7. College & outside facilities for manufacturing vehicle & overall cost estimates 8. Innovations proposed, if any. Based on the performance in the Virtual BAJA, the teams would be selected for participation in the main event. The selection would be purely on the basis of merit and ONLY ONE TEAM PER COLLEGE shall be allowed on the basis of comparative merit.

The qualified teams would be required to submit the design report soon after the Virtual BAJA event. The design presented during the event shall be considered as final and the team shall be considered to proceed towards fabrication activity using the same design. Failing this, the teams shall be penalized / disqualified if the fabricated vehicle does not exhibit correlation with the design report or if the teams fail to fabricate within the stipulated timeframe. Note: The Virtual BAJA is a prequalifier, thus, no ranks or awards would be issued for the Virtual BAJA event.
