ANTITHEFT SYSTEM FOR ELECTRICITY

INTRODUCTION : Power is the soul of world which is related to the electricity and electricity is the word which now rules the world. So, proper utilization of this commodity is of immense important to us. Hence, it is necessary to measure power consumption. Normally, large scale industries consist of various departments like production, storage, package, administration, transportation situated away from each other. For such industries, it is necessary to maintain record of daily power consumed by every department to keep check on excess power consumed. Power theft is becoming a major concern as 30 to 39 percent of power loss is due to power theft. Xbee can be a way to communicate between two poles to detect whether any fault is there in the line. When a power theft is there between any two poles, the receiver pole will send back the received data to transmit pole where the error difference will be calculated and displayed on the LCD for detection of power theft between the two poles.

BLOCK DIAGRAM EXPLAINATION:

TRANSMITTER UNIT: The transmitter unit consists of Energy meter, signal

conditioning circuit, microcontroller unit, power line communication unit and LCD display. The energy meter will show the power consumption i.e. the power sent over the power line to receiver unit. The microcontroller is the heart of the system. It controls the LCD display, generates interrupts, calculates errors and controls the power line communication unit. As the energy meter works on 230V and the microcontroller on 5 V. we need to provide electrical isolation between them. This isolation is provided by the signal conditioner circuit which is actually MCT2E. The LCD displays the number of units of energy transmitted and also displays the error difference on request. Overall,

the

transmitting unit displays the number of units sent and also calculates error difference and displays it. If the differ occur /error occur between poles it will send the message to electricity board about the problem

RECIEVER UNIT: The receiver unit is same as the transmitter unit. The only difference is that it doesnt calculate the error. It only displays the number of energy units it receives and sends the data back to the transmitter unit when the latter requests for it.
