Summer Reading at RPL a Hit with Children and Teens

Over 9,000 children and parents made RPLs Dream Big--Read! summer reading program a huge success! Programs were held at all three RPL locations and RPLs Western Rowan outreach center located in Cleveland Town Hall. Participating children submitted over 16,000 reading hours this year, and more than 570 books were given away! The summer festivities started a week after school ended with RPLs kick-off events. Children ages 1-5 were entertained by staff members telling fun childrens stories focused on nighttime and dreaming. The school age children were entertained by professional performers, including a magician, ventriloquist, and theater troupe. Own the Night, RPLs sixth Teen Summer Reading Program, included activities such as black light poster design; CSI information from the Sheriffs Department; Carolina Shadowsbizarre stories from North and South Carolina; Nocturnal Animals from Dan Nicholas Park; star-gazing; and a live concert.
